Hey everyone I'm new to Jbody.org and I just wanted to give a shout out to everyone here.
First off I would like everyones opinion in what performance mods to get on my 2200 motor.
I'm just looking for about 175 hp on this thing but I don't know from expirience how to get there. I was thinking a full exhaust system from the header to the muffler, port n polish, plug wires, and a cold air intake which I already have.
175 HP from a 2200 is a lofty goal unless you go with nitrous or boost. you may pick up 10 hp give or take from intake+header+exhaust combo. headwork may be your key if your gonna go natural, but its gonna take about all the tricks in the book to get 175 HP. i had a 99 fire with the 2200+3 spd auto...with a injen intake, Stans header, full 2 1/4" cat and exhaust, good plugs and wires, and upper n lower mounts my best 1/4 mile time was a 17.7. if you have the 5 speed you might get somewhere, if your running the auto leave it stock...all bolt-ons do is make noise with the auto. even with the Eco auto trans sucks...just look at my profile, the mods ive got and the time im running...its pathetic.

u shouldnt have gotten the intake without boring out your TB though it kinda refers to the saying your as strong as your weakest link. If you get a new intake manifold but no TB then that defeats the purpose that'd be the reason for no real improvement on the timeslip. Oh and of course once you get more air in that engine then ur gonna have to need more fuel but anyways ty for the input I think ima go with port n polish TB cylinder head, and the exhaust I'll let you know the timeslip here in about a month. The port n polish ima do myelf so it'll take some time.

Turbocharge it. Relatively Cheap. Powerful. 175hp made easy. Yay!
actually if its hahn stage 1 you can get almost 200 whp.... whp can be multipyd by 5-15 %.... so you can look around 200-230 hp at crank (from what ive been told by dealer)
I was just telling Ian why his sunfire runs 17.7 timeslips with a new intake, wires, and a full exhaust
My appologies for my mistake.
No problem I'm new like I said I don't like to start problems with anyone I choose to make friends instead
If you want to get 175 hp out of an ohv you without a doubt have to do some internal work if your staying n/a w/o jucie or boost. i would definatly look into valvetrain and head work. With a cam, crank scraper, overbore, headwork and more compression, and a good tune I think 175 hp is within reach.
Since your rockin an auto, go to the trans forum and look up madjacks post on stalls and all the different gearing for the auto trans. That auto will eat a little more power than the manual, but is by no means a weaker trans.
Ian stated his 3 speed with boltons ran 17.7 just for comparison I ran a 17.2 a few weeks after buying my 2k1 2200 5 spd. 2.5years ago.
I'd start with suspension. Do it right, you'll love the car.

Rascal makes a good point. I did that first and though my car is slow all my buddies like taking turns in my car.. can't go wrong with suspension
