Ecotec build/swap

Hi,
Well, the position I'm in now is I have an auto 04 eco with the gm s/c and reflash, but my car is getting quite a few miles on it (just turned over 100k) and I'm wanting to up the boost with the s/c by getting a smaller pulley and just upgrade the performance in general without blowing something up. So, I'm wanting my engine upgraded. And that's where I run into a few questions. Should I stick with the engine I have now and get forged rods and pistons, and maybe get the patriot stage 2 head ( and any other things that you think would be good)? Or should I get another 2.2 eco engine with less miles and do those same modifications to it and then swap the engines?

If I choose to get a different engine, could I get a 2.2 out of a cobalt and it just be a straight swap, or would that cause any problems? Is the cobalt 2.2 a fly-by-wire engine, and if so are there easy ways around that?

Also, I was wondering what kind of labor prices I could expect if I had people do some of these things for me, especially the engine swap? Also as far as the head is concerned, should I go with getting it, or just taking an existing one to a machine shop?

Thanks for any info.

A straight DIRECT engine swap (eco to eco) ONE from another 03-05, goes for about #500 to $ 700 here in Canada @ a few local shops.

Is that 500 to 700 canadian or us dollars?

also, since I have the s/c would that change things?

I'm gonna guess CAD and yes it will probably add a bit more work with the s/c.

You can rebuild your motor if you don't mind that much downtime. I am finishing up my build and it has taken about 5 weeks to do everything. If you can afford that much time without the car then pull it, build it, reinstall it. otherwise buy a spare, build it up, and pull the old on and replace it. That's what I will do from now on.

Ok, I'll probably just buy a spare and build it. Does anyone have any ideas or estimates on how much it would cost to get some of the other work done by a shop? like installing the rods, pistons(overbore), heads, cams and any supporting work?

Thanks

The motor work, parts not included, to do it right will be nearly a grand. My build is running nearly $6500USD but I am also doing a lot more work and a lot of that money was spent on the rollcage that is in the car. Making that thing fit right cost a pretty penny.

Ok, that's about what I was figuring. But how about the engine, will the cobalt's 2.2L eco fit in my cav without any problems? or is it fly-by-wire (and are there easy ways around that)? Thanks.
