Pacesetter Header
Saturday, August 26, 2006 4:36 PM
I put a ceramic coated pacesetter header on my 2.4 and had to extend the O2 sensor. Also, is the header really close to the firewall because mine is and it is leaking, but barely so I'm not sure what to do? The bolts are a bit too long and it needed a custom downpipe cause the one that came with that header did not fit. I drive this car in the winter so would this cause any problems or should I just leave it? Its leaking between the header, the downpipe.

That is odd. I just recently put the pace setter header on my ecotec, and had no problems getting the pace setter in. There was a slight leak, because I did not tighten down the bolts from the header to the down pipe until the exhaust was done.
Bolt, washer, place bolt through the hole, washer, compression spring, washer, nut. Then tighten down. The compression springs should face the rear of the car. That is how mine went.

no problems with mine either

does the header hit the firewall in reverse , or going foward ?

if not then i wouldnt worry about it

and my down pipe worked great for me , but i did a full 2 1/4" at the time

and if you pull the o2 plug on the mount its on you do not need to extend the wire

I zigged instead of zagged. I stayied with my stock man, and got a 2nd one for the wreckers for 10 bucks and had it ported and polished from 2.25 to 2.75 and it still looks stock its great for a turbo add on

well if your stock one looks as crusty as my cast 2200 one did, you accomplished nothing. The close to equal length runners are one of the things that really help the exhaust flow.

It kinda sounds like you didnt use the "springs" that they gave you. Especially if you are saying that the bolts are too long.

The springs are in there and it cannot be tightened anymore and I can still spin the bolts around

I too am having the same problem with a leak. I had to get a custom downpipe made that reduced the leak but its still there. Bolts are as tight as they can go. I have both upper and lower engine mounts too.

the bolts and springs go together this way

bolt , washer, flange , flange , washer , spring , washer , nut

the bolts with the springs arent supposed to be as tight as you can get either. They need to be able the move which is why the spring is there so the header doesnt crack under vibration and engine movement. Did you use a donut seal in betweent the downpipe and header? If not try it they're cheap and prevent leaks.

Also, you need to tighten them at equal turns. If you turn one more than another ... you pretty much need to start over.

i have not problems with my header. I did not have to extend my O2 senor i plugged clip so the sensor could extend longer. Also make sure that those bolts are on properly and the engine mounts help a lot. It is a shame that Mark Pain does not sell the Lower mount with the better bushings. I had a custom down pipe but a shop put on the down pipe for me, the header we put on and drove open head to the shop.

WE made a few changes, but now it just barely leaks when you start it, and when you get off the throttle. Is this something to worry about or should I just leave it. Also, the car gets winter driven.

just loosing power is all and back pressure isnt what it should be.

Mylife are you talking about the trans mounts? If so you can still buy the poly trans mounts through several different companies right now. I think carcustomz has them or maybe its a plus performance. Ive seen then though.

I am talking about engine mounts. I had one of the first mounts that thing the bushing in it was rock solid. Mark pain had gotten some made with softer bushings.

I have the Prothane bushings motor mounts to put in.. Lets see if i can tell the difference with my old Mark pain dogbone mount (once i get the chance to install it) but i get the feeling it wont be that much noticable of a difference. The prothane sets i have here... isnt ROCK solid but FIRM enough to hold motor in place without rocking too much...

Where would I get one of these donut seals that fits?
