the search function will tell you all that you need to know!!
Ill make a sig someday
lol im new to j-body codes wats a LSx
LSx is a small block Chevy engine. My car has the LS1. As far as your LD9 (2.4L) vs. Eco, it's a toss up. Some people like the LD9 more, and some like the Eco more.

ok well let me put my situation out there i think i just spun a bearing on my 2.4 but if it is something bigger im either gona reduild that or go ecotec and i want to know which will make most power for cheapest and be most reilable
Go Eco- better reliability and pretty close HP, lot lighter
Ecotec by far. I know personally of about a dozen Cavalier Z/24's and Sunfire GTs in the scrapyard because their engines started to knock at the crank before they even got to 60,000 miles. Hardly impressive in terms of reliability. I'd never buy a Cav/Sun with a 2.4 except to get the body.
^ That's because you don't know of any Eco that drop the timming chain. In no way the Eco is superior in reliability.
You're just beating a dead horse here. It's just a choice. The easiest would be to stick with a 2.4 or use a 2.3 with Hp tuner.

i love how the quad guys stick together if they have a quad its better usually same with the ecotec guys but its all in personal opinion the quad guys know those motors better so they know how to make it a great motor same with the ecotec guys
but in your case just get another 2.4 and learn about how to make it reliable
well im about to pull the pil pan and see if its not just a bearing if it is ima be using the 2.4
Ecotec. simply because the 2.4 is no longer made. company's and GM are focusing on the Ecotec. more aftermarket support

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
the ecotec is all hype, its just like if a new phone comes out with gps and mp3 players built in, people are like, " that phone is way better than my phone ", ? How do you know which one is going to last longer, or more reliable? I would have to say 2.4.
i used to have a quad but the quality of the ecotec is much better. More market support plus you get an engine that with some sex can get up to 1400 hp. The most quads made were in the 700hp back in the 80s. Ecotecs have much better oiling system, ecotecs also come in turbocharged versions. quads are a dying breed i say go with the flow. Ecotec fo life yo!!!!!
You live under a rock. in 1990 Olds came out with a 1200hp Quad 4 that had a world record for speed.
Than you brag about an engine that make 1400hp 16 years after? nothing impressive.

Technically an LS based engine is not considered a small block

lol But I will agree with alot of the folks here, the Ecotec is better for the simple fact their is a larger aftermarket that supports it. Ya Olds made the 1200hp back in 1990, but how readily available were those parts? Flip open your GM Performance parts catalog (just naming one here) and you find ecotec heads, blocks, cams, intakes, throttle body, flanges, pistons, rods blah blah blah. You could build an engine just out of the 2-3page section on Ecotecs.
if you look in the classified on our org, you will probably find alot more parts for a quad than an eco. fix the oiling system with the 2.3 pump and you have a bulletproof setup for cheap, that is very reliable. the only downfall is the aluminum vs. steel. preference is what it comes down to. look at threads on here and make a decision.
for your app. i say go 2.4 and save yourself alot of time and money, same in that comes out.
well i actually have been looking at ecotecs and i like aluminum blocks so i think ima buy one

Gm came out with the rocket parts catalog witch is the same thing as the Eco build book. You could have all the IMSA and Firehawk series racing parts. They even gave you info on what to tune and what was the best setup.
