Exhaust Question
Friday, September 15, 2006 4:31 PM
just wondering if anyone has done this and what it would sound like. What would it sound like if I cut an opening right after the engine and before the cat/resonator (whichever comes first)? I think it would sound somewhat throaty...right? I would get it welded back together probably the next day..lemme know if anyone has any sound clips. Thanks!

It would sound like a major exhaust leak and sound completely like ass. just my 2 cents.

so what about taking off the muffler and resonator? would that make it sound decent? I just wanna have something loud to drive around for the day.

buy an exhaust and then buy an electric cutout if you want it open

but what does it do?

it is basicly a pipe that seperates the exhaust through the system or lets it come out with the flip of a switch

it basically has a valve that takes the exhaust from your normal system and dumps it before kinda like you cutting the hole but you can open and close when you like. you could unbolt it from the cat and run around like that but it's gonna be loud annoying and obnoxious. thats a couple things you could do.

Sound does not make power

Horsepower makes sound.

Thats clever. Just was curious what it would sound like dumping before the cat, resonator, and muffler.

it would be super loud and raspy
thats my thought
i had stock cat 2.5" pipe and fart can (with removeable silencer or tip) no resonator.
it was loud. it sound good from inside but outside like @!#$ lol raspy ass hell and like ass.

i change all that now lol

yeah its clever. but true. doing something like that would be good at a track with a car that makes good power with a turbo or supercharger. on the street with basic bolt-ons you would look stupid and your car will sound like crap.

I unbolted mine right after the cat. It's super loud and annoying and pops way more than before. Also, it feels like I have lost alot of low end power. So I'm assuming before the cat would be louder?

a friend of mine helped me put on my header then we drove it with just the header to the exhaust shop. It sounded like A--. Driving to the shop was just terrible sounded awful

I just wanna know what it sounds like with straight pipes. I've heard you can unbolt the cat and hear what it sounds like. Can I drive around with this unbolted??

You cannot unbolt the cat off the car but you can unbolt it right after the car where the resonator is and drive it like that.
