*HELP* Performance Stainless Steel Valves
Friday, September 29, 2006 7:53 PM
Hey all, quick question. I bought some stainless valves from J body Performance, they turned out to be a bit longer than the stock valves. My machinist says that the length difference is gonna @!#$ up the Valve train ratio, steep angle on rocker arm...

This is a 2200 (1.6 roller fulcrum rocker) head, using the 2.2 Cam
now, we're thinking of using SBC say Jegs style roller rockers. Will this fix the problem of the angle on the rocker? Or is the angle not as bad as it may seem? (we haven't installed the valves in the springs etc)

Thanks in advance!

1) You got 2.2L valves, you need 2200 valves. While the geometry will be off, you will also have practically no spring pressure when the valve is seated, and you'll have valve float at like 2000rpm and up.
2) Your stock rockers are 1.54:1, not 1.6
3) The 2.2L cam will cause your ignition to crap itself because the timing notches are different.
4) If you try to cure the longer valves with new rockers you will also need new custom length pushrods in different lengths for intake and exhaust as the valves didn't increase by the same amount for each. You will also need new springs, which will have much different seated pressures between intake and exhaust.

Save yourself some hassle and return the valves for the correct ones (I'd suggest buying from carcustoms instead, much better track record).

Yeah, the springs and @!#$ are designed for the valves. Supposedly. They don't really seem to know what they're selling. They seemed to at that time, and its been a couple months since I baught em, and am in contact with them still about the prob, and they're telling me that these are the only length valve they sell for the 2.2 or 2200. I am usnure if he will take em back...do you know anyone looking to buy a top end set for a 2.2?

Thanks again man.
