2.4L tb out to 62mm.... BE CAREFUL
Thursday, October 05, 2006 6:02 AM
As you all know, there are the online places that sell the 62mm throttle bodies for the 2.4L cars.

But if you talk to some machine shops, they don't wanna port out to any larger than 57mm.

So,
I had my local place port it out to 62mm just to see what would happen.
They stopped at 57mm initially, but I told them to go for broke.

Basically thats what happened....

Now,
I've had a 62.5mm 2.4l and a 63.5mm 2.3L tbs made up for me before. Custom
( I sold my 63mm to someone on here, where you at? )
And I"ve had a 60.8mm RSM and 61.2mm RSM tbs also.

So next time a shop doesn't wanna take it out as large as you ask them, you can see what can happen.

I guess I would need to see a stock TB pictures next to it. I do not see anything wrong with this TB, other than needing a plate in it. More details please.

Well,
Its for sale if anyone wants to mess around with it.
The plate I was gonna use doesn't fit.

But on the back side where all the ports are, usually, and on all the TBs I've had ported,
There is usually material around there.
Meaning, each port has its own little boxed off area to get its readings from.
So thats all gone now.

Also,
If you notice, on the back in the middle, the tine little circle is now cut open down the middle.
So that could be a potential problem.

Either way, I'm not gonna get a chance to test it out on the car so if anyone wants it, I'll take offers on it.

Any place that succesfully bores them out that big, offset bores them. That's not to say those TB's are what is advertised. Good on ya to test it out though.

the walls are gone around the vacuum ports and IAC , which if i remember correctly the blade sits lower or right at the level of those areas

that expels the rsm 62mm myth , i call it busted

All good.

I gave them another tb to take it out to 59 so it should be ok.

Still,
It was darkfox over on quad4forums that made me the 62.5 and 63.5 tbs at the plates.
He also did port matching for the HO manifolds too.
Wonder where he disappeared off too.

Maybe,
Right now my next thing for the community is a Venom 2.3L intake manifold.

Yes, its gonna cost me way way too much money.
So wherever I get it from better have a nice return policy.

But as long as I can get it and take a pic or too, so folks can see if its LO or HO.
And to see how large a tb can go on there.

Then return it and use the money for something usefill.

Thanks,

When I machined my space 2.4 for a 2.3 56mm plate. It was close, so 59 would be REALLY close.

I'm going to try the Edelbrock 75mm tb and make a spacer for the vac ports, with my HO intake just to see if I can make it work.

Hey,

I'm up for some adventure... I bought a stock 2.4 tb to have machined out, but haven't done it yet. I'll trade you that for the overbored one. I'll get a plate and try it on my car. What's the worst that can happen, my car already idles like s4!t.

I'll post here how it runs compaired to stock, and if nothing else it'll be fun.

Can you use a camaro throttle body on our cavaliers? If so would you be able to get a larger port out of one of those to achieve greater diameters? I thought I heard that from somewhere.

Tell them to move the bore 1-2mm offset towards the bottom. That's how mine is. That's also how we got a 69-62-62 configuration

Will give them a call tomorrow and see what they say.
Hopefully they haven't touched it yet.

Offset it left to right, front to back, or top to bottom?

you shouldn't have to make a plate for vacuum ports if you have the HO manifold

here is my manifold

if you offset the bore wouldn't it make it oblong?

The RSM 62mm TB was offset.... couldn't tell you which way now though, I've sold it... along with all my 2.4L stuff.

It was sleeved after the bore.... so it came down to 60.83mm... then the bits that you had bored out, were cut back in. I've got pics here: http://24.81.69.1/Cars/My%20Cavaliers/BFZ/tb/
