So, one of my friends has a 1997 Pontiac Sunfire SE, it's been totalled three times and fixed completely all three times... Wears it's rebuilt title like a badge. Anyways, he's got it in his head that it's time to go a little faster. He's fallen in love with my car, and a turbo 3.4 swapped Fiero, so our new goal is to swap a 3.4 TDOHC into his Sunfire. Now, I've spent about twenty hours researching this so far... And it looks doable. I've got the motor already, as well as the transmission(1993 Getrag HM284), flywheel, all those pieces parts... And I've already gutted a spare Sunfire's engine bay, and it turns out that 3.4 WILL fit in there... not very well, but it fits, mostly. I've been working on a wiring harness for the last few days, and it's mostly done, as is a gauge cluster for the car to take advantage of the higher redline and some other goodies... It's too dark to take pictures now, but I will be in the morning, once everything's in the same shop. We're shooting to have the swap done and drivable by January 10th, but it won't be nearly done until late this summer. Basically, what I'm going for now, is getting info on the Sunfire in general, and creating a log of what I'm accomplishing here. Sorry I don't have much more than ideas and little substance in my first post, but I'll be adding it as it comes in.
Has anyone else tried this swap yet?
what's next...people putting 3800S/C's and V8's in their sunfires. madness I say!!!
Alot of this stuff has been done before, please look around and get more info.
Welcome to your new home. I hope you enjoy your stay.
I have yet to see the 3400 DOHC swapped into a 3rd Gen....... heard rumors, just never seen it done...... the 3100/3400 I have seen a few times.
Good luck on the swap, and keep us updated with pics.

I remember seeing pics of the 3.4 twin cam in a 3rd gen here before... it was chameleon painted and the pics I believe were taken in front of the golden gate bridge if i recall correctly... can't for the life of me remember his username though, that was over a year ago.... It was a show car, so i doubt there were ever any track times out of it.

3.4. The 3400 is a pushrod motor, fairly different piece of equiptment. Well, got some measurements done, and mocked up a few pieces of the turbo setup going on it... Looking good, but this engine bay is going to be tigher than a 3000GT VR4's! I'm having some clearance issues coming up, but nothing a sledgehammer and a plasma cutter won't fix.

the 3400 is the same width as the 2.8L it's just a more "square" motor.
http://fiero.cc/fiero-tdc/members/mws/swap/ the 3400DOHC into a fiero, with comparison pics of the two motors, basically, if the 3100 and 3400 will fit then the 3400DOHC should as well.
lol i'd just seen him post in the 1st gen forum and was coming here to post the link myself...
