i just installed a short shiftr on my 01 cavalier. i see a lot of threads asking if it is good quality. well heres my thoughts.
assuming you buy the one i did made of 303 steel. "not t-6 steel" if i am not mistaken t-6 is aluminum so that might tell you something about that one right away.
i bought mine from k2 motor corp. it came to $45.99 with shipping. not bad since the b&m is over $100 before shipping.
the installation process is very easy. it doesnt come with instructions but if you check out this website you wont have any problems.

so on to the good stuff. there was only one major problem with the shifter and that was the reverse lockout. for some reason it didnt really work. there was a little too much play in it. but i overrode it anyway. and it wont let you go straight down from fifth into reverse even without it it just makes it so you dont have to pull up on the piece under the shift knob to put it in.
otherwise it was even better than i thought. it gives you an extremely noticable difference in sifting and makes for a much more pleasurable driving experience. shifting from gear to gear wasnt "smoother" but wasnt any more difficult and like i said it did decrease the throw quite a bit. so overall unless you really want that reverse lockout it is well worth the price. who knows you might even get the reverse lockot to work. hopefully this helps someone out.
