10.5: vs 11.1: compression
Tuesday, November 28, 2006 11:13 AM
ok well iam having trouble finding 11.1: comp pistons

so how much of a differance is there between 11.1: and 10.5:
its only like half a point rite?

Or do you think it would be worth it to find so 11.1: over 10.5:

Thanks,
Paul Tjepkes

10.5:1 pistons and the Cometic .030" head gasket

OR have them custom made (most Wiseco ones are)

10.5:1 with a cometic .030 head gasket brings it up to 11.1: ??
i was having karo at carcustoms get me some 11.1: but he said he might need a mold of the head.

But he said he can get 10.5:1 for sure so iam thinking mabey just go with 10.5:1 and being done with it.

as for the head i already have a ported 2.4l head with jbp stage 2 cams and jbp lifters and ho valve springs, polished vavles and a 3 angle valve job

so head swap is out of the question

so should i just work on getting 11.1: or just get 10.5: and be done with it?

and is 10.5: really that much less that 11.1:?

also where would i get a cometic head gasket?

Thanks,
Paul

How much was all that head work? I hope to do the 086 head swap this spring/summer and end with 11.5:1. But if your way is cheaper then i might do that. What numbers are you shooting for? Or are you just bilding it and seeing what it makes?

well i did all the porting and polishing and i installed all the valves and seals and springs myself all to gather for the head it was about $600 thats with valves and springs and seals and a valve job
thats not including cams and lifters

all to gather the head with lifter cams every thing for the head was about $1100

This is what i have on the head
ho valve springs $150
carcustoms polished valves $200
3 angle valve job $80
ported head and cambers $40
jbp stage 2 cams $350
jbp lifters $300
and all new gaskets

for a total of $1120

iam hoping to get at least 200hp maybe more i just dont want to shoot to high and not make what iam shooting for.

Thanks
Paul

Hp & TQ wise there's not enough of a difference between 10.5: and 11:1 that you'll notice maybe 15hp, but as far as which head is the most cost effective, the 086 stock will outflow a fully ported 2.4 head and make more power & torque. Now don't get me wrong you choose to work with the head you had and did your own porting & polishing but if you would have had to pay for that it would have added between $500 - $1200 to the price of the headwork. And the cost of the other components would have been the same but sounds like you have a very nice setup anyway but I just wanted others to know the main reasons for swapping to the 086 head is the massive airflow the head moves.

Using the info in your profile, according to Desktop Dyno, you'll pick up about four horsepower at a peak of 7000 rpm, going from 10.5:1 CR to 11:1 CR. This is assuming everthing is done correctly and it is tuned properly. Your actual results may vary.

^^^ and i'm sure it will be 4hp that isn't worth the very real hassle of trying to tune it for that much compression, especially if you're trying to run it on premium pump gas and not racing fuel of some kind.

On a 2.4 you won't see the difference in tuning between 10.5:1 and 11:1 compression. You'll run it on 91 octane no problem then you can adjust what need to be adjusted.

You could even run it on 89 if you wanted to. If you have hpt you could have different tunes for different fuels. 91 or higher octane will be a easier tune and more gain.

Gillies is running 12:1 on 94 octane, you will be fine with 11:1 if you run 91, mine is 92.
