Tips for dynoing an automatic?
Wednesday, November 29, 2006 9:59 AM
Ok, so its time to get some numbers for my s/c setup on my automatic cavy. Of course, there's always the problem of downshifting into lower gears. A quick search revealed:

1) Put trans in third gear.
Slowly accelerate to around 63 or 65 mph.
Ensure your in third gear.
Ensure RPMs are over 3800.

2) Did it through 2 gears , starting about 30-40 in 2nd gear

So, I'm not really sure on what to do, I think the dyno ppl will probably have some clue, but I'd rather get more opinions and experience from actual JBO members.

So what do you guys recommend?

find a shop that has a tech2 or other scan tool that can lock the trans into a gear , 3rd prefered

when i dyno'd mine they did it from a 30-40 in 2nd gear , shifted into 3rd then to the speed gov limit

When I went, I revved up into third gear (with the shifter on 3) and held it at about 3000.

They get the dyno ready and you let her fly from there.

I wonder where you got that info from.
Anyway. If you do step one. IT SHOULDN'T down shift into 2nd.

Thats how I did it my first dyno session.
Either way will work fine.
