What performance enhancers for $350 and under?
Monday, December 04, 2006 12:45 PM
Hey guys i am trying to sell my subs for 350 and i was wondering what would be some good performance enhancers for under 350. Combos are kinda what i am looking for i.e. intake and short shifter. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

ebay intake, ebay tsudo header, custom cat back to your fart can. You might be able to do all of that....that would be a big step in the right direction.

noooooooooooooooo do not lower it for $80. dont go cheap on your suspension. certain things like an intake, you can go cheap on, but dont mess around with suspension. do it the right way and save up money, otherwise spend it elsewhere

Bad suggestions. The chip is a horrible idea. It will do more bad than good, and the drop can not be done properly for that price.

I'd look into something that would compliment your driving style.

You should be able to buy a high flow cat, and get the exhaust piping done for abit under 350. You may have enough left to buy a header. A intake can be bought on ebay for cheap. If you add a K&N filter, it will be just as good as a name brand cai.

A short shifter and intake may make the car more fun to drive. The B&M short shifter is the best one imo. You should still have enough money left over on that one for some motor and tranny mounts.

You could also look into some suspension mods. You could get some front and rear strut tower bars. Control arm bushings can be had for cheap too.

$80 for lowering sring + 25 for cambers(if doing wheels) and an IAT chip gave me 15hp on the dyno...no joke.

Ok, lets see your dyno sheet then.

The suspension setup you keep sugesting is incomplete and dangerous. Improper combinations of springs and dampers can cause a car to loose control.

The IAT "chip" (resistor) is also an incomplete solution. You are modifying one aspect of the cars electronics without compensating for it elsewhere.

Please stop suggesting these as "performance options" to people who don't know any better.

i was just telling a rough price....and the IAT gave me 12hp and 14hp on 2 dyno runs

A "rough" price for a complete suspesion setup should be around $500-700 for the Eibach pro-kit and KYB AGXs. A "rough" price for a complete electronics tune is around $500 for HP Tuners' solution.

$350 will buy you an intake, exhaust, or some suspension accessories like strut tower bars or sway bars. You'll have enough left over from any one of those to buy some good car washing stuff.

Invest in another car.

you sir (or should i say child) are a effin moron..

for 350, i'd first work on getting suspension, the fact of the matter is (to me atleast) that all jbodies are slow without a ton of money, so if you want a fun car make it handle first, because your not going to be having fun with the pathetic times that jbodies put out and yes thats purely an opinion

gotta love the jbo. where when people ask for mods for their cars and jackasses like you tell them to get another car.

Get the cat back exhaust on the group purchase for $169.99 and an ebay intake. Leftover money might be enough to have a shop install it. Well it should just depends on how much shops in your area charge. Then you got some noticeable power gains.

Why not go down to Kinkos or any office supply store and have them scan it for you?

There have been numerous dyno runs posted on here before with those chips, and quite afew of the cars actually lost horse power and torque. The wideband scans were reporting an extreamly low air:fuel ratio.

Without seeing the dyno sheet, it is pretty hard to belive that you actually made power with that.

I'm sure you can find a friend who has a scanner or digital camera and can post those sheet up.

It's not plug and play, I know that, but I don't know the details. I have an Ecotec. Start a new thread and you'll probably get a bunch of people telling you to do a search, but start one anyway and see if someone knows off the top of their head.

You'll throw a code.

96-99 = EGR
99-02 = No EGR

Somehow, I don't see some high rolling ebayer throwing down $$$ for a dyno run....

And to the OP, If you're gonna go w/ engine performance, do as other have suggested. If you want handling for that price go to turbotechracing and pick up front + rear sway bars and front + rear strut tower bars. Should be around $350 and will make a noticable difference in handling. Then save up some cash and pick up a kyb agx + (springs of your choice) combo or get the Koni Sport Kit (comes w/ springs).

I don't know about you but my J-body isn't all that slow....I am satisfied with my power for the mods I have done so far.. and handing tsi's, gst's, b16's,1.8t (etc...the list is endless) their asses are quite satisfying to me my friend. J-bodies aren't slow at all stock. Or maybe I'm just a good driver.. My old 2200 was slow but of course it was a 3spd auto cavy, wasnt much I could do to get it up there but my eco isnt slow at all.
