crazy intake idea

ok, i was thinking. i saw these cheap obx polished intakes on ebay and i had a brainstorm. i figured i could buy one and cut the flange off of it and weld on an ecotec flange and have the local machine shop redrill the throttle body holes and i would have a polished, instead of plastic, manifold that could also be fitted for direct port nitrous or something else cool. but then i remembered about the lengths and diameters of the runners having to be a certain figure to get the right torque and horsepower at the right rpms. but i thought i might try it just to try it and see how it might work out, since ill still have my old intake manifold. the only other option would be dremeling the factory intake to port match, or buying the venom intake which is like close to $1000 or something. so give me your ideas and opinions on this. could it work?

I had to read that a couple times. You are talking about buying a cheap intake manifold...not an intake. If the spacing between the runners is right, then I don't see anything wrong with doing that. I assume it is a log style manifold that you are looking into, right?

you are gonna have to make an adapter flange of some sort...the HO manifold fits on the 2.4 and i was trying to cut the flange off and have an eco one welded one, problem is the ports are different sizes and not all 4 ports line up...if you line up the first one each one is off by a little more and the last port is off by like half an inch.

but like anything with enough work you could make it work...

Likewise. After reading it a few times, I just read your post and found out I could have saved some time.

yeah thats right, sorry i didnt say that. it is an intake manifold. i thought about the spacing and thats why i didnt go with the 2.3 ho manifold. the runners on the ebay manifold are made of tubular stainless and i thought i might be able to bend them or reweld them in a different position.i know it sounds like a lot of work but i want something different, something out of the ordinary. i did hear that there was an ecotec running a 2.3 manifold on here though and i would like to see pics of it.
