Hey guys, I'm just trying to get that good ol' intake sound out of my Ecotec Cavie, how do I go about removing the intake resonator? will this damage my engine in any way? any dashboard lights gunna come on? I opted to go away from the cone filter idea since I need to drive my Cavie to the ground and I dont want any extra particles hangin round my engine.. thanks!
der.....
i dont get it. You want your car to sound like it has an aftermarket intake, without an aftermarket intake?
Easy solution:
Get an aftermarket intake.

So I'm asking how to remove the intake resonator, I would rather not get an aftermarket intake .

To my knowledge there is no intake resonator on the Ecotec intakes. So looks like your problem is solved. You should fill out your profile so we know what you have. You will get a lot more help.
eBay intake = $30
I have had mine for about a year, I live in the desert with nothing but dirt. No problems at all, and I keep it clean.
What would it sound like if I removed my stock resonator?
I haven't modded my engine, intake or exhaust, but would like to hear my exhaust more than I do now. The ecotec engine is louder than my exhaust, so I want to make it a little louder...
Would this sound stupid without a res, or would it fix my problem? I DO plan on getting a preformance muffler/full exhaust, but not right now...
Anyone done this? anyone taken any audio clips after doing this?

Hey man, if you wan't that intake sound you need a hligh flow filter. You can get just the filter (cone style) from autozone for about 30 bucks. I don't know much about eco's but my LD9 made a nice buvrooomph sound when I reved it up under the hood frome my intake, so yours probably will too. Your car will run fine with an open throotlebody until a rock gets lodged in your butterfly valve, so there shouldn't be any drivability problems, the only sensor in your intake piping before the throttle is your IAT sensor with is easy to relocate. My Injen CAI actually made a big difference because stock LD9 piping is so restrictive. As far as exaust, mine is loud enough that I can't hear the intake unless i'm opening the butterfly by hand under the hood, anymore. If your looking for performance i'm sure people can help you, If all you wan't is for it sound sound "cool", your just going to have to listen to other cars like yours with different exausts and choose for yourself. Most cat-backs sound good though.
by resonator do you mean tha bong that is in the wheel well? if you do its easy to take out.. jack the front drivers side up ( to let your front driver side tiregive you more clearance in the wheel well). take off plastic in the wheel well. then behind the front bumper you will see the bong it is connected to your washer fluid resevoir by a bolt remove that bolt and maybe a few other ( i cant remember exactly i did this when i got my cai about 5 mos ago). then yank it out. i am not sure if it is a good idea with the stock filter though so do your research before you tear into it. or plan b get a $30 wai off ebay. i paid that shipped to my door for my car but decided to get a full cai so i put it on my buddys eco cav and it made the intake whoompf that i dont think you can get with a stock filter. plan c ( i dont recommend it but it does make the intake loud just buy a rice filter from autozone a 3 inch exhaust pipe piece then remove your stock filter box assembly replacing it with the filter, using the exhaust piece to connect the filter to the stock intake pipe. i have seen and heard this on a j before looks super rice but makes the same sound of the wai. hope this helped i recommend just buying the intake and not ricing out your car though.
Thanks for the info, but I was actually referring to my exhaust resonator. This was the closest story I found regarding res', so I posted here. Anyone ever removed their exhuast res from a stock ecotec? Does it sound stupid? I do have a preformance intake on the way from the internet, so it wont be like that for long.

well if your going as far as to cut that res out y not just get a muffler off ebay or something with a 2 1/4 inlet and have a local shop mandrel bend you a custom 21/4 catback without the resonator. i did that with a magnaflow muffler and my exhaust is not obnoxious or ricey just a good deep tone. i spent $85 on my catback and it is no different than one you order. i did get hooked up on the muffler i got it for 20 from a friend who never installed it on his civic and 65 on getting the full catback bent (mandrel not crush), welded up and installed.
