Pacesetter problems
Saturday, February 10, 2007 8:08 PM
Recently installed a Armour Coated Pacesetter header that was used on my 2000 Z

Im having a leak issue and i think its coming from the Collector ive got the collector bolts almost tightened the same and they are tight

Im wondering if its a good idea and if anyone has just removed this collector and went with a flex pipe?

Thanks

I can't see that being a bad idea. Exhaust is pretty simple when it comes to making it function. If it will make it down and under the firewall okay, and it is welded or clamped securely, it will probably work just fine!

Think this would be a better way to go with the Flex Pipe?

Or does anyone have suggestions to solve these leak problems?

I used a brand new felpro gasket for install buit im not having trouble getting to the the bottom nuts and the ones on the drivers side

Any and all help is greatly appreciated

Anyone went the flex pipe route?

Try taking it to a muffler shop. I don't see why the flex wouldn't work but will that solve your problem? Muffler Machanics this type stufff all the time and might have a better idea of what to do.

Do what u wonna do as long as u do it right!

So you have a gasket on the collector? I have a pacesetter header and I do not have a gasket and no issues. I have had it leak before, but the bolts just needed tightened up. Do you have springs on the bolts? I do not. I also have a flex pipe in my exhaust (but not at the collector), it is under the car. I would recommend staying away from the flex pipe if you can. I want to take mine out, it makes my exhaust sag, and it also adds some rasp to my exhaust.

Hmmm

I do not have a gasket at the collector no the gasket is at the head

Ive got the spring on the bolts and as tight as i could get them with a 1/2 inch drive

I do not get any leaks at idle just underload and am out of ideas

Can someone give me the best route?

The collector is part of the header. no removing it. I do not have a pacesetter downpipe. I bought my header used and had my local exhaust shop make a new downpipe that connected at the collector, no issues.

Something like this one would be nice - http://stores.channeladvisor.com/verociousmotorsports/Items/fc-0250-600-i?

Its especially needed if you don't have poly or aftermarket engine mounts. Just the rocking of the engine alone could be loosening the bolts from stress.

if its leaking under load , the motor might be moving to much , if you dont have mounts get um

also you might want to put in some new springs , also make sure you did everything right , they should be assembled , bolt , washer , flange , flange , washer , spring , washer nut

also might need to add a couple washers , in case the nut bottoms out on the thread

I ordered a small piece of flex to add at the bottom of the new downpipe that the exhaust shop will make tomorrow
