I dont know whats going on I just rebuilt a 2.4 and put it back in, and I am getting coolant leaking from the thermostat area, not 100% sure yet. Does anyone know any common places if it is not the heater core lines? Could the thermostat be stuck closed, I have heard of them open but not closed. I think it is closed because the coolant is not mixing in the resovoir and the water pump is brand new.
Also how do you replace it on an automatic? I need help since I have only done manuals and the tranny is in the way on the stupid autos.
Let me know

How bad is it leaking? I have had issues in the past with the heater hose that connects to the water pump pipe. It has the plastic device for quick disconnect. It would leak. I have heard of thermostats getting stuck open or closed.

Well I guess it is opening and closing since I have heat, so it is getting to the heater core. I have to check. I ran the car for 20 mins, then the next day for 20 mins and no leaks now it is leaking so I guess I just have to check connections. Autos suck, they are so big and cant see anything.

Are you sure its not the gasket for the thermostat leaking??

That little bastard had me puzzled for a while. It got in the way of the HO manifold... And between the obstruction of view from the manifold (above) and the autotrans (below), the problem was terribly difficult to diagnose...I eventually had to reroute the coolant lines to clear the manifold..

Easiest way is to remove the manifold and remove the two bolts connecting the water pump housing with the black down pipe. There is also a bolt connected to the oil pan and a clamp connecting the coolant hose at the other end of the black pipe. Obviously you drain the coolant first.

Can a Thermostat Stick Closed?
Yes. there are brands however that will stick open if they fail.
