i installed my pyro and posted some pics in photos&media
pyrometer install
today,i was cruising on the highway @ 70mph and it reads 1400 - 1450F. is that right? these engines run hotter than i thought!! if i get on it in 3rd to 4th it will bury the needle at 1600F. just wondering what temps other ecotecs have with a pyrometer?
I am no expert, but I would think 1600 is EXCESSIVE
1600 is way high. Where is the sender mounted? Mine sits at 1350-1400F if I'm cruising at like 70MPH on the highway.

I used to race cars, now I race myself.

Yea.....thats high, real high.
every one is saying that this is too high....but...look at where the meter is located.
my motor is stock with an AEM cold air intake and Magnaflow cat-back exhaust.
in the instructions they want you to mount the probe 2" from the head
i figured that getting close to the O2 would be the most optimal spot.
i talked to some of the techs at the dealership i work at and they said going close to the O2 would make the most sense.
i ordered a HRC stage II kit and i'm trying to get some baseline figures so it will be easier to tune.
HELP!!! PLEASE!!!
For some reason I'm thinking your running a bit lean. That's the only way I can think of to get the EGTs that high.

Hypsy,
Where do you have your EGT probe at? What kind of temps are you running?

He could also have retarded timing...

True....but it would have to be WAY off to get that hot.

Hypsy is on the right track...just for the hell of it, I blocked off the vaccum to the fuel regulator and ran it wide open. Since this makes the fuel pressure go up. My EGTs came down to 1250F to 1325F when cruising @ 70mph and at wide open throttle 3rd to 4th is @ 1550F. I'm going to find out exactly how much difference the fuel pressure changed, tomarrow at work.
Thank you guys for giving me Help !!
Well since your car still has a manifold, i'm guessing its fairly stock... then a lean cruise is just fine and is there to give you better gas milage.
I see about 1200* cruising and its a fairly rich cruise and about 1500* @ WOT with 12:1 AFRs.

Built, bottled, ready for 11s. 14.446@93.74mph, 1.848 60' N/A.

So I'm the the right track...I see you are only a little rich @ WOT.
Alot rich compared to an 05 which from what I've seen run leaner than 03 ECMs... my sensor is also further away from the head than yours is.

If you sensor is farther away this would give you cooler readings. Which means your EGTs would be higher like mine.
Are your wideband and pyro fittings close to each other?
I checked my fuel pressure over lunch and I have 58 psi with or with out the vaccuum line hooked up. When I hook up the line to the regulator and gave a quick snap of the throttle I noticed the pressure actually dropped

. I figured out that where the vaccuum line attached it was before the throttle body which made vaccuum when I accelerated. For now I'm gonna leave the regulator full bore.
