So I have a 01 z24....Very soon my 086 will be on which means exhaust time
After much thought and reading I will be going with the 3" exhaust, I might be going boost and I might not but that will be decided when I redo the bottom end. Either way the fastest people have 3".
I have decided to get a ION supercharged ecotec header modified for the head(1 3/4" primaries, 3" collector).
Here is the part I am unsure of....
For a resonator I want to go perforated and not louvered...so this is what I have come up with:
Dynomax Ultra Flow
And for muffler:
Warlock bypass muffler
Do you think that will sound like your average turbo muffler when the bypass is covered up?
And some kind of oval rolled edge tip.
Any input good or bad will be appreciated.
Whatever size you choose, don't go smaller than 2.5" mendrel.

if your not going boost dont get larger then 2.5
ha ha this is funny it make me think of my old exhaust it was 3 inches with a four inch tip and a cat delete pipe and its funny cause i was the only cavy with a greddy exhaust cause my buddy crashed is honda and we cut his tip off and then put it on mine lol

On a stock LD9, sure...but not on a motor built for top end horsepower. Plus, the four primaries together have about 2.5 square inches more cross sectional surface area than a 3" exhaust.
The man above you knows what he is talking about...I would listen to him.

Thanks and yes thats what I was thinking more top end HP figured Ima have the better head might as well have the exhaust to help it flow.
Anyone know where I can get a perforated 3" resonator that isnt $45...al the louvered ones are only like $20? I heard they arent that great for flow.
No i think he knows what he is talking about. No turbo and a 3" wont allow enough back pressure at all and will be bad for him in the end. Backpressure is ur friend!

I'm not getting into why that is an ignorant statement. You research gas velocity vs backpressure, and you get back to us. I will agree that a smaller diameter piping increases velocity at lower rpms, but Mr. Zepp is going to be running HO cams which means more air to push out of the motor at higher rpms. A smaller diameter pipe will sufficate a motor on the top end...and if he is thinking about boosting it in the future, it doesn't make a great deal of sense to pay for the same mod twice.
On a side note... the #1 NA J-body Ecotec (Skwirl) is running 3" exhaust... try and tell him he's wrong.

To back Brian, The stock downpipe of an Ho is 2.25". Any guy that tell me that a 2.5" exdhasut is too big for a 086 head is a noob to quad 4.
No smaller than 2.5" MENDREL bend. I got ALOT more experience on the quad 4 than any of the guy in this thread. You want velocity for a 2.4 or any engine that you want low end. On any high end engines, IE Ho, the 2.5" exhaust it the MINIMUM. You want flow since you already don't have low end. Peak torque on the Ho is 5200rpm. low end? What's that?

Thanks guys...you are reinforcing what was going through my mind.
