Anyone eles planing on over reving?
Wednesday, March 14, 2007 6:57 PM
Well since I've been talking with Alex over at Black Cat Custom on making a 140 cluster for me with some Led upgrades. I also asked him if he was able to make a 2000+ cluster that would take the stock tach to 8000 RPMs instead of 7000 RMPs. Cause I like others don't want huge tach's to take over our dash I would like to see this happen. I know not many are going above 7000 RPMs, but Alex was wondering who eles would like to have this done soon or at all. The company is looking into some programing they could get to make clusters do just about anything they wanted, but with that comes cost. We all know how that goes. So if you are like me and would like to see this happen for us and others since we are now able to turn this engines up higher...

I'm totally game. whatever the cost.

get me an option to 9000rpm and I'd be even more interested

but an 8krpm cluster I am definetly willing to get onto the market.

center position tach right

No f'ing way, the stock tach is way too sloppy and responds to slowly.

I can be bounching off the limiter and it'll be displaying "4000".

Well with the programing that he was talkin' about I'm sure he could make that huge tach in the center you have go higher then that. I really hope that this goes cause I would hate to have to buy a new cluster later. I don't think this will be a next month thing, but I would like to see this happen for sure for everyone.

if alex says he will do it, he will do it. the guy is awesome.

whenever I'd call him to work out an order or finalize details, we'd end up BSing for an hour or so.. great guy!

I may have to call him to let him know personally I'm behind what goes on with this 100%

..so long as the tach is still mounted in the center =D

I am definitely interested, center tach or not, as long as all their other options are still available. Is it going to be much more then the standard $270 for the 140 mph conversion?

Skwirl do your gauges have the LED upgrade? The web site isn't very clear, is it just the needles light up differently with LED's?

all the lighting in the needles and behind the lettering/numbers is lit up by LEDs

idiot lights are still orange/red however and those can't be changed since its a colored film

my car 04 cav hits a rev limiter at 4000 in park or neutral, my old 99 sunfire 2200 did the same. both cars are autos. i dont think its hitting the redline rev limiter, i think they are actually limited to 4000 in non-drive gears. but i could be wrong...

however..if the car is rolling and i put it in nuetral itll rev to (possibly past) redline...and itll wrap up fast too...

Like the others have said his 140 clusters are around 270 in all. Also if you get teh LED upgrade and needle upgrade you are lookin' at 329-339 for just that. We can't talk price yet, but just needing a light into things about who would want this kinda stuff.

I got a 2000 2200 auto n it does tha same thing in park n neutral.

no more cavy...now 240 =]

I see a cool-air intake
It's got a NOS-fogger system and a T-4 turbo
I see an A.I.C. controller
It has direct port nitrous injection
Yeah, a stand-alone fuel management system
...Not a bad way to spend $10,000

DAMN IT!!!! I just bought a cluster from them and it just got finished....I just emailed him and asked if he'd quote me on an updated setup with the increased tach and speedo. We'll see.......crossing fingers.

My 98 cluster goes to 8000 and is only off by a few hundred rpm at 7500 (so I mentally compensate)... I didn't know the newer ones stopped at 7000.

Also, when I pass by 200 km/h the needle spins around and begins again at 0 and I have a speedo on my turbo timer so I'm pretty good in that respect, and a good accurate tach on my S-AFC (which acts only as a dead accurate tach now haha)

A pretty cool upgrade, I dealt with Alex years ago and he's just a fantastic guy to deal with. This would be an interesting upgrade for you guys.

I was looking at getting a cluster from him....... after all the stuff I wanted (higher speedo, led lighting, yadda yadda) it was almost the same price as a full Auto Meter gauge setup using Cobalt gauges..... lol

I do like his work though, I had a HVAC face in my car for 3-4 years?

im down and I'd be in the market for it. Although I already purchased an aftermarket tach, a clean gauge cluster set up is way cooler.

I'm with you. I've had a huge tach in my car before, and 6" tach is a little over kill with a dash in the car still.

PJ - Did you every e-mail Alex to tell him you where wanting to do something different now?

I would be interested but it wouldn't be till next year during my next deployment. That would be the only time that i would get it (or need it for that matter). Plus it would have a couple more things done too but i would like the option to have a built in 10k tach as long as it was reliable and accurate.

10K tach huh... That would make it kinda small don't you think?

It might fit if it was in the center (how big is the print on the autometer minimonster tachs those are like what 3 1/2" gauges)... 8 K would work though
