Exhaust Size

I am having a full header-back exhaust installed today. I got a Pacesetter header, Magnaflow cat and a Matrix muffler all with 2.5 inch inlets. I am getting a 2.5 inch stainless system put on is that to big for an N/A car?

2.5" is fine for a NA car.

2.5 is probably good enough for mild boost too, if you want to go that route eventually.

2.5" is good but keep in mind that for horsepower ranges up to 250 should be around 2.25" to 2.5" and 250hp to 325hp should be 3" and over 325HP should be around 4". The best muffler is no muffler on the topic of a flowing exhaust but use a glass pack like Thrush that takes away annoying resonance but also improve flow. But no hardly any of us on here straight drag race only these cars....a few but not many

The more bolt ons I added, the more I realized I needed a 2.5 inch exhaust. I have no doubt if I switched to it, I would get a few more ponies. I feel at times its restricts the airflow from exiting the engine. You got the right diameter, unless you one day Turbo it.

isn't it a rule of thumb, that from 2 inch up is each inch should equal 100 horsepower? 0 - 200 = 2 inch, 200 - 250 = 2 1/2, 250 - 300 = 3 inch, 300 - 400 = 3 1/2 inch

This is what I was told once. Take a garden hose, turn it all the way open. If your hose is to big, it just flows with no pressure, to small it backs up and blows out at the beginning.

You might be right. For example, Dodge SRT-4 comes STOCK with a 2.25 inch exhaust, but as we all know stock exhaust still restricts airflow. So a 240 or so stock HP SRT comes with an exhaust as big as mine and is fast enough to post 13.9 or 14.0 1/4 mile times. With 140 HP stock and bolt ons, I still would get a 2.5 inch with limited mods. I don't think back pressure would be an issue on SRT-4 if the exhaust was changed to 3 inches with everything else stock. I've never had that rule of thumb but I personally believe with our cars since STOCK torque is pretty good, you need to get 2.5 inch exhaust even with putting out only 180hp or so.
Can anyone give me any more info on this?
