Rev Limiter
Monday, July 02, 2007 4:11 AM
I have 2002 cav 2.2 automatic. I run it at a circle track in 2nd gear. I hit the rev limiter 3/4 down the straightaway. I recently purchased a hp tuner kit and can't get it to work. I am tired of trying. I was wondering if i could just send my computer out of the car away to be programed and who could do it?

Do the z24 cavs have a sway bar?

you are likely having a spark and a fuel cut

why dont you just upshift????????
Re: Rev Limiter

probably because of the size of the track. he probably is only in those high rpms for a short time before he comes to a turn. shifting up might lose more than he would gain. getting a couple hundred RPMs in the one gear he needs for the track, would make sense if he isnt staying in the high RPMs too long.

I have helped on sport-4 and little enduro cars before lol.

On the other hand....you have other fingers.

I told you in your last post about this the only person I know who can do it name was.

As for your "Do the z24 cavs have a sway bar?" it belongs in the suspension and brake forum.

unless you have a built upper end raising it isnt a very good idea, those valve springs wont last long

is there a way to raise the netural rev limit it seems to peak out @ 3500 rpm not very impressive sounds like a cat choking on it's own vomit

^^^ Why do you need to rev the engine out in neutral? The answer is yes, but If you are going to be...

a) neutral dropping
or
b) revving it out to "look cool"

then I'm not about to tell you how.

what is that for and why is it set so low?
and is there any advantage of neutral dropping or does it jam the tranny and spin the wheels

Let me correct that last statment i do know the reason it's there it to prevent people from reving the engine and dropping it in gear

im soon th have a 5 speed swaped in and was just wondering if it was possible to raise it

I would like it to be at least another 1000 rpm higher it's not like i am attempting to do a neutral drop a 7000 rpm (4500 rpm would be nice)

you realize thats not helping. the computer recognizes the rpms are too high and changes it to when it engages its not a HUGE neutral drop. and yes its pointless.

If you swap in a 5 speed, then the nuetral rev limiter will change. The rev limiter on 5 speeds are set to like 6000RPM, or whatever the safety point is.

I do not think the top end of the 2200 will like 7000RPMS. If you were only upping it a couple hundred fine. I can help you raise the rev limiter as well. Yes you can also raise the neutral rev limiter as well (never really understood the point in it actually).

As said in a previous post James, really read all that this site has to offer before posting, that way when making a thread or posting in one you'll avoid the flaming and you might actually have some knowledge before asking questions, just trying to help you out.Trust me I made the same mistakes before but now I have at the least a small amount of knowledge about my own motor and vehicle.

I believe so but am not so sure,I am just doing the fan override mod that is in the library so I can turn the fan on whenever I want but my advice to you is if your 2.4 is stock right now, start out with the beginning stuff.Header, exhaust, intake, motor mounts, trans mounts, shift kit or short throw shifter(dunno if you have a manual or auto?)but start small unless you have the cash to go all out, then I'd say build the motor and boost it along with every bolt-on you can get.Good luck

I would stick with the stock temp thermostsat. Yes HPT can change the temps that the fans come on at and the temp they shut offf at.

Seems like a dumb question but what is "neutral dropping" exactly?

Is it just when you rev it in neutral then suddenly pop it into gear?

And if it is the above then why the hell would anyone want to do that ?
