Z24 performance mods?
Saturday, August 04, 2007 10:46 AM
hey guys, first of all this is my first post so be nice... plz! haha, i am BRAND new to all of this. I bought a car off of mautofied.com and kind of got screwed... I definitely didn't get what I thought I was buying... I'll up pics if anyone is interested in seeing what I am talking about. But back to my question, I have seen a lot of write ups about doing performance mods? to the ecotec, but I don't see much about the Z24. Could you guys tell me what I should do to it?? Supposedly it already has a T3/T4 Turbo (ball bearing) supposedly it was custom made by some california shop... he gave me the name but I didn't write it down. It also has a shortthrow B/M shifter... here is the car http://www.mautofied.com/listing-100022550.htm When i got it it definitely didn't look like that! ha, the paint was hurtin pretty badly, the interior was so dirty that there is no way that I can bring it back. The body kit doesn't fit... the headlights are both loose and jiggle around. I mean... it's just not what i bought so i am going to build it... but i have no idea how? haha, sorry for the post going around in circles... i didn't even know where to put this type of post? but maybe you guys can help me out and kind of give me a direction of where to go with the engine atleast? and then maybe the paint and interior? but i guess that this is the wrong forum for this? I'll probably get flamed for even posting this but oh well, i figured that it was worth a shot... i'm quite discouraged! haha... oh, i am only 17 :-)

Thanks,
Shane Belanger

dont worry about it..welcome to the .org .. youll learn your way around soon enough...the car looked good in the pics..id like to know just how you recieved..theres lots of stuff you can do to that engine.but if it already has a working turbo i dont think youd want to change it..id like to hear more about how it was when you picked it up

Welcome to the .org (have I been around long enough to say that?) I agree with Scott, it looks alright in the pictures we saw, could we get some of your pictures of the car? Once again, agreeing with the above poster, if you've got a T3/T4 Ball Bearing Turbo, and it's in good working condition, I'd say you're pretty lucky, and to keep that sucker in there. Hell, I'm saving up to get one of those in my ride right now! The only reason I could see you wanting to take it out is if you wanted to switch to a supercharged application. Really though, it seems that most of the problems you're having are superficial ones, so let us see what kind of damage we're working with here.

well, this is the email that I sent him... whats up with the trunk? the drivers door doesn't open? the interior is wicked dirty? the antenna is missing? where are the floor mats? what is it running for gas? the door popper on the drivers door doesn't work? what i mean by the door not opening is it physically can't, it is caught on the front panel... man i honestly don't know what to think here bro, how did it win any shows or get into a mag? the trunk display was ripped out? theres still wood on the screws that are in there... what is up with all of the screws all over the car? what is going on on the step thinger where it has a decal that says performance racing? why is half the sticker missing on the rear window? i mean, whats goin on here? i just don't know what to think dude, and theres lead lining the trunk... the body kit is pretty **cked, i mean thats from shipping yeah, but man... even the passenger side headlight doesn't fit? it just wiggles around? i dunno man, i'm really confused it looks like you spent a lot of time on some stuff, just breezed through other pieces and the nice stuff is all faded or torn or dirty, i dunno if i can bring that leather back, it's really really dirty or faded or somethin?

pics of the car that I took before it even got off of the trailer... these pics are just a few of the 50+ that i got of the damage...

Your best bet for performance mods is all dependnt upon what you already have. With that said you should examine any aftermarket part. Look for any numbers or brand names. The more information you can give us the better we can help you. With that said since you are interested in performance. Find out as much about your turbo setup as possible and then post in the boost section. Try and break down each mod and ask about it in the correct forum. You will have much better luck getting it answered that way.

yeah, thats kind of a problem though... you see, the former owner of my bucket said that it was "custom made" by a friend of him that works in a California bodyshop. I had a guy from a local bodyshop look at the turbo and he said that there was no way that it was a T4... but that it was a T4 in the flange? i think he said? i have no idea, maybe someone can help?
Re: Z24 performance mods?

wow..he really tried to screw you...well heres the silver lining..even though the car IS very poorly put together you do have a BASE to build on...meaning..instead of doing ALL the work and ordering ALL the parts you just have to fix whats wrong with whats on it..which i realize may be alot but we all do ALOT..first thing id do is take off the duct tape and paint it right..fix the headlights..maybe new rims to fix those messed up ones..stuff like that..but if you fix whats done wrong youll have a reallyyy nice car ....but id still choke the guy if i saw him

The guy you bought it from is a member on here.
Here is his profile.

I remember seeing this car in the photos and media section and him saying he was selling it for $12,000. Many people said that was too much. How much did you actually pay for it?

i paid 4,200.00 you see I was going to pay half then when it got here pay the other half... i had every intention of paying the other half until I saw the car... and yes i know that i paid too much for it... but did i get burned THAT badly??

i mean... i haven't done anything to the car at all... should i just have him take it back and refund my money? i mean... i just dunno what to do, i obviously thought that i was getting this show car for a great price. but like everyone always says, you get what you pay for ... so the big question, is it a good project car? or is it not even worth it?
Re: Z24 performance mods?

apparently my car was raced a LOT http://www.angelfire.com/ca7/cavwhat/Project_Cav.html ... and to think it isn't even tuned correctly... it's running too rich... hmmmm, well i got owned pretty good didn't i?? #$#@#$

I was going to post on here with something semi-applicable, like do you WANT this to be a project car, are you willing to put this much work into it? Because if not, try to do whatever you can to get your money back. If you don't mind putting a decently large amount of work into it, than keep it. The only real thing I'm going to say is sorry.

Re: Z24 performance mods?

well, putting work into it wouldn't be a problem if I knew what I was doing... but i don't so it kind of sucks. The guy that is going to work on it is really good at what he does and he's going to help me out because obviously i worked my @ss off to just get the thing and now it is going to be so much more. If you look at the electronics in the thing and the turbo than it is probably worth some... but I'm just not sure. As for getting my money back... well I probably could part the car and get the cash back, well maybe?? But i have kind of started to look at this as a good thing because i'm going to make this car my way, and it already has a lot of the accessories that I would have bought anyway. But what sucks is that now I have to buy a new bodykit, new rims, new tires... and it's all adding up . This is Jasons cardomain http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2167341 he has some pretty cool rides. (the guy that is helping me). I'm in no way looking for anyone to feel sorry for me. This post is now obviously pointless. But hey if anyone has any cool ideas for the car, and i mean anything, like bodykit or rims or anything email me shanebelanger@gmail.com any input would be REALLY appreciated. I have been looking around a LOT, but i'm not sure what is good and what isn't. I don't really want to get what you guys have because I want something original... that makes it harder haha. I don't just want the run of the mill cav... Well, now my little rant/spiel is over. Thanks for taking the time to read my little post

Thanks,
Shane Belanger
