2.4 Tb and HO intake
Monday, August 20, 2007 11:15 PM
im going to use my 62mm tb on the ho intake manifold but i was wondering, the 2.4 tb bolts are too thin (wont screw into the 2.3 manifold), what did you use to put the tb onto the manifold and did you use the stock tb bracket?

i was thinking about using the 2.4 tb bolts and just putting a washer/locknut on them

anyone with pics would be greatly appreciated

thanks

find bolts that fit into the ho manifold, then expand the holes on the tb to fit.

I dont know if this help. im useing the stock 2.4 TB bolts. i just drilled another hole on the top right hand side closest to the EGR ( But that to hold the Throttle Cable Box). I just out a washer and a nut on the otherside of the screws

Also keep in mind that the inner diameter of the HO intake manifold is about 58 mm. Put on a throttle body with a larger opening than the opening on the manifold, and you will be doing more harm than good (unless you taper the manifold opening to match the tb opening).

...but boring out the TB holes to use the 2.3L bolts is the easiest way. Esspecially since they are stronger, and there won't be any room for the bolts to slide around in the hole...Remember, the 2.3L only uses 2 bolts opposed to the 4 for the 2.4L.

Not if you bore out or taper the end of the manifold to match or excede the size of your TB opening. 62 mm is plenty achievable. If you wanted to go much larger...say 75 mm ... then you have to cut the end of the manifold (right next to the runner for Cylinder 4) and weld on an adaptor flange of some sort.

do you have to position the tb the same way mr mcd has his or can you run it the same way the gm s/c is?

damn edit

Brian: i ported the tb opening for the intake manifold so it would match up with my rsm throttle body

can the 2.4 tb be positioned like this

instead of like mr mcd's

I don't remember exactly whether the 4 bolt holes on the 2.4L TB are semetrical spaced (square), I believe they are though. If so, you simply just expand the opposite two holes that you would if you mounted it normally...Then bolt everything up and go.

The bolts for the throttle body are to small because you are suppose to use your old Intake manifold bolts and dremel out the holes on the 2.4 throttle body.....
