ran in to a snag w/ carrier bering... any ideas?

Ok so I have a 98 grand am w/ the 2.4 & the isuzu tranny. I blew the motor. I got a 2000 2.4 out of a cavilier. We got it all out, got it all back in. Went to hook up the half shafts and we hit a major snag. The holes for the carrier bering bracket for the grand am are completely destroyed, and we do not have the cavilier carrier bering that came with the motor. So the question is, can a 2000 half shaft that would mount in the cavilier spot work correctly w/ the grand am? My concerns are length as i'm pretty sure the grand am is wider than the cavilier.

Or do you have any other ideas?

Tap is a possiblity, but the cars on jack stands and it's in a real awkward place so short of pullin the motor back out, this would be a last resort...

Thanks in advance

The reason they are "destroyed" is because the motor that came out of the cavalier was an automatic. Those holes werent used. Simply get a metric tap for those holes, and chase the threads, it will work. I have done it on two different occasions and worked nicely. What you have to do is get a tap, weld a nut on the end of it, and use a ratchet. Its a bitch I know, but, it works.
