If I were to use a 2.3 manifold on my 00 2.4 auto, would I need the phenoilc spacer or would it clear the trans by itself. Ive read that some say yes you need about 1/2 extra and some have said it would fit right against the head. It would be portmatched, and I know I have to add material to the match the 2.4 head. Im just looking for a straight answer. Ive done the swap before but I used a fonatan flange.
I had to use two of the intake gaskets.
(cut and hacked up to fit of course)
Also,
Change out the bolt on the trans/ground block to a regular hex headed bolt.
The original one that was there had treads coming out the top of the bolt head.
So I just swapped it out.
But the better the port match, the better you will be.

About how thick were the 2 gaskets together? I have a roll of gasket material around so Ill just trace and cut.
Jw, what do you think about using jbweld to add some to the ports? Then grinding down and smoothing out? Is that a bad idea?

Yikes...yeah to me that would be a bad idea. I know it's supposed to hold to just about anything, but IF it decides not to hold at any point, that little chunk goes straight into your cylinder. You'd be better off adding some actual aluminum weld into the port and then grinding it down and smoothing it to match.

450WHP Turbo Ecotec swap in the works...
Yea I thought about if that were to happen. It would be much easier, but I dont know if Id take the risk.
If anyones looking for a ho manifold, check ebay cause theres a bunch on there now. I got mine for $19
Yeah,
JB weld not a good idea.
The manifold ports are larger in general.
And you'd be trying to adjust for the middle, upper 'hump' that's on the head.
And like Splin said, that's even if the weld compound holds.
The gaskets are about 1mm thick.
So figure about 2.3mm total once everything is bolted up.

the HO will fit using 1 gasket , and nothing else
you will how ever have to move the ground bolts around , mine had a stud on the top and a bolt on the bottom(if i remember correctly) and i had to flip flop um , or you gotta cut the stud off the 1 bolt
i just followed the instructions on the quad 4 forums. i used 2 gaskets and some silicone sealer

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
mine bolted up perfect, and i am on the head with only some RTV, now soon as i get a spacer i will have gaskets and RTV. though mine is the L.O. it shouldn't matter
they way im goin to do mine it im goin to have 2.3 HO Mani + 2.3 Gasket + Adapter + 2.3 Gasket + 2.4 Head.
99z for 2015.. I'm back bitches
Yea I have done the swap before using a lo manifold and flange. It was a pita trying to line everything up using 2 gaskets, so I just used rtv. Its easier if you use rtv to kinda glue the gaskets to the adapter. Im not planning to use an adapter as I want to port match the manifold.
Thankd for the help everybody. I was going through old threads and some were saying it wouldnt fit without it being about 1/2 inch away from the head, and some were saying it would so I wasnt sure. Ill take a look at the trans bolts, and if need be just swap them or cut the stud off the one bolt.
2.4_LS_4Door, did you try to match the ports at all or just bolted it up?
nope only work done to it was to make it bolt up, but the adapter flange is in the plans but it bolted up pretty easily, and it rums great.
