how safe is it to rev over 7000 rpm on stock springs? asking for a friend.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, your stock rev limiter prohibits such revving. Unless he has the rev limiter removed, or bumped up, which I am assuming he doesn't because of the question you just asked.

Some stock valve springs start floating valves at higher RPM's. Stiffer valve springs solve this problem. I would have to say not save a 7k on stock valvtrain for your friends car, look up a guy named Skillz on here. He is revving pretty high.

7k is fine have been doing it for a long time but the ??? is are you making power there its its stock probly not with a set of aftermarket cams yes i am but the stock cams wont do any thing and all you will be doing is making alot of noise and no power

I revved to 7grand on a stock valvtrain with no issues. I would not go higher than that though on stock springs.

tuning is also a problem on a stock pcm in that 6500+ area

If you've done enough to get your engine to perform in that RPM range (most likely including a cam), you need stronger springs. If you haven't done these mods, there is no point in pushing up your rev limiter to increase your RPM range. Stock just won't do anything useful there.

What about reving let's say at 7000 rpm with a stock engine with basic bolts-on and Eaton supercharger on an ecotec??

A supercharger doesn't improve your valve train. I don't know what the stock eco's go to but likly if 7000 is past stock it's not a good idea. For something like an ld9 I'd say the cheapest and most effective way to rev past 7000 rpm is a secret cam swap, possible with a HO exaust and 086 valve springs. The ld9 valves are lighter and a hair shorter and the 086 valve springs are much stronger . (84 lbs vs 60 for the ld9.)

From Quad mods,

Quote:

The 2.3L head features 1.44/1.24 valves (weighing 69g/58g) with a 7mm stem; the 2.4 mill features smaller 1.40/1.14 valves (weighing 42g/39g), with a 6mm stem. The 2.3L valve stem is fractionally longer (4.32 inches versus 4.25) and is tulipped (mostly for mass, though it also helps trim the compression ratio). The weight of the valve lash caps was reduced by half as time went on: 16 grams in the 2.3L, and just 8 grams in the 2.4L.
