need advice on drag radial and rim?

Ive heard of stock jbodies with like a bfg drag radial and helping a lot with et. I was just wondering if its true and what tire you would recommend for 2005 sunfire, and also do you guys know of any light weight aluminum rims that are worth buying. i work at Discount Tire so i can get this stuff dirt cheap.

dont waste your cash on drag radials, buy slicks.

stock j's don't have enough power to require slicks.

oleg bud read the faq sections. drag radials save half shafts becuase of less wheel hop.

using slicks to run 14s is real impressive... :rolls eyes:

drag radials are cool cuz you can rock them on the street and still cut decent 60' times.. and if you get caught in the rain, or pulled over with them you don't have to sweat too much.

I don't think sticky rubber should be high on the priority list until you have serious traction issues and are putting down a decent amount of power, or have substantial other mods.

Wheel hop isn't really the issue.. its just stupid to run slicks for a 15.4 second pass.. in fact its down right retarded.

not to mention, the OPs car is automatic, so until you do a high stall converter and other crap, you can't do a launch much higher than 2000rpm anyway.

yeah that is true, on the other hand i was able to stall to 2500, i usually do at 2200 but next spring ill get a yank 3000 stall.

thats pretty much true what skwirl said.

until you start having traction issues, dont worry about sticky rubber like slicks or drag radials. a nice high performance all season or summer will do the trick.

also, the smaller the rim the better (keeps the rotating mass to a minimum), so a 14-15" steel or alluminum wheel will work very well.

next year, im probably going to take my Potenza 950's to the track, seeing as they are the stickiest tire that i have at home.

by the way skwirl, you can still launch well withoutlaunching high. i launched at about 2200 rpm and had an RT of .200 my last time out (automatic).

RT has nothing to do with the 60ft...

True, but ive seen bad RTs when people have a hard time getting traction, so i would assume bad traction would lead to bad RTs. generally i find if you can get good traction, you can get a good RT and a good 60' time.

what I was getting at with launching autos is the torque converter tends to absorb a lot of the shock before it gets to the wheels so its a bit more forgiving during a launch... coupled with a low rpm should make breaking the tires loose somewhat difficult (without major engine mods such as boost, etc)

whereas a 5 speed... like myself for instance... launching at 5400rpm its pretty easy to accidentally lay a rubber strip instead of moving forward.

this isnt a performance question , there is a wheel and tire section for a REASON USE IT

that doesn't even make sence....

hard time getting traction has absolutely NOTHING to do with reaction time.... the light can turn green and you can sit there for a full minuet if you want and still run a 13 second 1/4 mile, it doesn't affect your time. The reaction time doesn't matter, traction, 60', ET, trap speed, none of that is changed by the reaction time.
