How to know when the stock pump isn't enough
Sunday, October 21, 2007 10:00 AM
Well im still rocking the stock fuel pump for lack of time/area to change out my 4.3 vortec one and was just wondering why alot of people on here say the stock pump isn't enough for my currect setup 2.6 pulley with meth. I'm getting no fuel cut at all and i've been running it for about 2 years like this. Thanks.

check your fuel pressure gauge

well i have it sitting here ready to tap into the rail along with the afpr, what should it be under wot, i know at idle it should be like 38-43 right?

the fuel pressure shouldnt change......unless you have an FMU

uh... no

at idle it should be around 45psi and at wide open it should get up to 52 if not slightly higher.

why do you think the fuel pressure regulator needs a vacuum source?

...

I'll tell you.. so it can adjust pressure according to manifold vacuum

LOL

its a fuel pressure REGULATOR.... it REGULATES the fuel pressure.... obviously fuel pressure changes or there wouldn't be something to regulate the change in pressure.

once you install the pressure gauge and can watch it while driving , if the pressure drops when under full throttle , you better replace it

if the pressure goes up and stays up your fine

idle psi varries depending on year , my 97 was around 42-43psi and went 10 psi higher with the vacuum line disconnected , my 00 was at 50 psi at idle and 10 psi higher with no vacuum

driving it around and not getting into boost or near 0 on the vac/boost gauge the pressure will go up and down , when it nears 0 the pressure should be going up , when the vacuum is higher it should drop

once into boost the fuel pressure should go up 1 psi for each 1 pound of boost
