Port And Polishing Next Week

Well I am finally getting the time to get a p&p done. 3 angle valve job, decking the head, and maybe a few other things. For the people who have got theirs done, what gains did you see? Also any suggestions on what else I should get done?

Well it kinda depends on your other flow mods. IE cams, bigger TB, header, and so on.
The more air flow the better for the most part. Just remeber your power band might move higher into the upper RPM range.

Get the Car Customs +1mm Stainless steel valves(to go with that P&P/valve job), roller rocker conversion, a 2.3L Q4 TB, header, full 2.25" exhaust, Cometic MLS head gasket and get a core camshaft for regrinding by your favorite cam company. These should get you going. It all depends on how much you want to spend, on how quick you want to be. See some of the other posts for more information.

And dyno tuning with HP Tuners! Be sure to save a before and after graph, so we can see how much of an improvement it made.

Ok I will try! What do you guys use APR Head bolts or studs? I got confused when my friend asked which one to get since the guy doing it is ordering them at cost. I got the Fel-pro gasket set. Also I am stupid when it comes to this I have never taken off the head yet so. How do you get it timed correctly? I know how to use the timing gun and such but anything to help would be apreciated!

ARP Studs is what I used on my last motor. A 2002 2200.

If the car is not out of timing right now, (i.e. running correctly, no timing issues) then you wont need to worry about timing unless youre changing the cam, or timing set.

The cam is in the block, taking off the head will not effect the timing.

Unless youre already having timing issues, in which case, i dont know lol.

Post pics/progress etc.

Sweet so no timing changes just removal of the head, I got a turbo kit, possibly coming, I am winning the bid on it so If i dont win that I will put much more money into the head, I.e. roller rockers, lifters, springs.

Ok some cam help. Is it possible to take it out through the wheel well? Or is it better to just pull the motor out? I figure I might as well do this since i am doing my head.

Forgot to add this. For replacing springs, could some off a v8 work as well. My friend said I should ask if 918 valve springs would fit onto these heads.

You can pull it through the wheel well, but it is not suggested by any means.

LS1 springs work (stock or aftermarket depeding on your cam), but you need to take about 0.200" off the spring seats on the head.
