well im looking to get an exaust im wanting to get 2.5" piping. I have the pacesetter armor coated header, from that to a high flow cat, to a resonator and then to the camaro style muffler into dual exaust. sounds easy i know a hundred others on this site have done it. But ive had a hard time getting this done, i finally spoke to someone that will install this most shops i spoke to told me that 2.5" piping wont fit over the axle i thought about it and figured well then how did the hundreds of people have it on this site? so i know thats bs. but, here lyes the problem the shop that will do it will do everything but 1 thing that is the cat. They say that my 04 cavalier has a 80k mile emissions warranty and that they can do the exaust but cannot do the cat. They have to either put the old cat back on or a stock replacement not a high flow. has anyone ever heard of this thanks in advance
Just tell them to double flange the stock one and go out and buy a new one (have them double flange that as well). Then by technicality you can uphold the warranty by reinstalling the stock one if anything happens.

Your emissions warranty can be voided for any alteration on the vehicle between the first emissions sensor and the last emissions sensor. SO technically an aftermarket intake that is not factory approved can void you emissions warranty. If you install an exhaust that comes far enough forward that the rear o2 sensor has to be installed in it the vehicle manufacture can technically not honor your emissions warranty. I had to deal with this enough in the dealer. Most of the time we looked the other way, because it wasnt worth the hasssel.

Basically what I was going to say, but it does not void your whole emissions warranty. That Cat and the PCM both have an 8/80 warranty on them. And tell who ever said that 2.5 wont fit over the axle to stop being lazy. We fit 3 inch over mine with no problems.....

Well if you do anything to alter air or fuel flow though the engine beyond the factory paramiters the cat. warranty is void if the dealer wants to do so. As far as PCM warranty you would probably be alright as long as you didnt alter any signals to or from the PCM in a manner that would cause voltage or resistance in the circuits to be out of normal allowances.
I have a 3" exhaust in my car and it clears the rear axle.
ik my car isnt new, but i also heard of this when i had my exhaust done a few days ago, they told me they had to put a stock cat on to being able to have 80,000mile warrenty, idk y because like i said its a 91,
