So my cars a 1996 chevy cavalier 2.2 ohv with a short ram air intake... its decently loud now but i want an American Muscle Sound... or something close to it.... im going to get a cat back but i want to know what else i should do and what muffler will sound good (not a ricey sporty sound but a deep "american muscle" sound to it... i was looking into the magnaflow 40 series delta....

what inch piping should i get?
should i do nething to the cat?
what about the resonator?
what muffler has a deep hollow American Muscle sound to it?
will putting tips on there help? if so what tips would work good?

Noise does not make power, power make noise.

Ok here is how you can do it without adding cylinders.

Invest $2000 atleast into a audio system. Then record the exhaust from the car you want it to sound like. Leave your stock exhaust on and just blast the system while your driving.

and plenty slow.

The best thing to do honestly is to stick with an oval muffler first off. Cannons always give you the high pitched fart noise. I'd Suggest for your set up a nice 2 1/4 inch catback with a flow master series exhaust. if its still a little high pitched throw a glasspack in there to mellow it out a bit more. If you still want that "muscle grunt" sound sorry to say but sell your cav and pick up an F-body.

BUY A FOX BODY..lol or get a borla system, ihave it on my 2.2 eco and borla is the deepest sound your going to get but make sure your pockets are deep for that system, its a lil pricy..lol

o ya get a DC race header...i mean it wont hurt to have

My exaust note is pretty damn deep... but it still sounds like a 4 cylinder because it is a 4 cylinder.......

a 4 cylinder is going to sound like a 4 cylinder and thats that...

I had 99 'fire 2200 with a Stans 4-2-1 header, full 2 1/4 exhaust with magnaflow cat and a flowmaster 40 series. I had none of the ricey honda sound. I have to say it was one of the most muscular sounding 4 cylinders ive ever heard...too bad it didnt have the bite to match the bark.

header high flow cat and a flowmaster if you want it really loud leave the stock resonator on it and put a cutout in before the muffler that's how my car is set up and i have noise ordinances out to wazoo

Don't you bottom out?

I guy on one of the S-10 boards put a vid on YouTube of his tu-tu with a Flowmaster Deltaflow 50, and it has a nice deep tone (Don't ask me what pipe size, as I'm still waiting for an answer on that). Might want to give that a look and decide for yourself.
