im gonna get an exhaust soon because on my 98 cav it just has a glass pack/tip which is put on sh*ty because all spot welded on i was thinking about cutting it off or w/e and either i could just buy a muffler or a whole new exhaust ....i don't like the pissed off weed eater sound i want a deeper smooth tone so i thought i could either go with borla or magnaflow so idk what to get any suggestion??

it doesn't really matter which muffler you choose, to get rid of the buzzing , "ricey" sound .

Buy a large resonator, and put it in after the cat.

They can be found on summitracing.com , ive used both the purple hornies, and a cherry bomb, both worked out well.

That was my old set - up on my cavalier.

is that just a glass pack
if it is idk becouse on my cav with the glass pack it sounds good if ur going normal but sounds horrible when u riv it up and let off
or is the resonator something totally differnt

A glass pack can be used as a resonator, if there is a another muffler .

My set up was like this

Exhaust manifold, downpipe, piping ,catalytic convertor , piping, resonator ( glass pack ), piping ,muffler , and tip.

It smooths out the exhaust tone , and gets rid of the raspyness.

I went with a Maganaflow muffler, and yes it will sound better when you have a glasspack, then a muffler after it.

These are two video, of when i took the maganaflow off and put a fart can on , same piping , the magnaflow was deeper, but you'll get the idea of non raspyness.

Your not annoying, don't worry about it.

The real question is , what do you like , round muffers? Fartcans?

My 22" Magnaflow res and Street series muffler is so much quieter than the above setups, Im jealous of the sound... Mine is actually too quiet.

I had two different maganaflow set - ups , the one i posted above which i think was 6'' by 14'' or the ones in this picture ...

That one was
Magnaflow Part Number : 14832
Double Wall, Straight Cut
2.25" Inlet, 4" Diam. Tip
4" Tip Length
5" x 8" Oval Body
14" Muffler Body Length

Can't help notice that Jersey's tip is actually smaller inside to a point then flares out sharply. I've always been leary of the megaphone effect of having a radically plus-sized tip or outlet (Too much noise!), but I take it that this design allows for a quieter note, but by how much? And how much louder (or quieter, as the case my be) is it compared to stock?

Go beyond the "bolt-on".

I had a full exhaust at that time, pacesetter header/downpipe, magnaflow high flow cat, cherry bomb resonator , and 2.5'' piping to that muffler. It was louder then stock , but nothing unbearable.

No droning on the highway, no raspyness , just some deep noise when you were on the gas.

That's cool... Beats having it sound like a runaway 2-stroke.

Go beyond the "bolt-on".
