07 eco in a 2002 Z24?
Sunday, January 27, 2008 3:33 PM
what would it take to put a 2007 ecotech engine out of a cobalt into a 2002 Z24? do the engines have same or similar mounts? will tranny mate up? can a cobalt tranny be used? how much computer/wiring headache would i have to deal with?

Hooray for worthless ass posts. I don't know jack about the Eco but I needed to call these fools out.

AFAIK the bellhousing bolt pattern is the same bwteen Ecos, and I'd bet money that the computer and harness from your car could run the Ecotec. I doubt that it would run ideal but I know that the stock tuning for an early 90s Q4 is atleast good enough to have one starting and runnings in my friends conversion in process GTZ.

search "ecotec swap" and your answers will be found.

3rd gen forum is a good place to look.

07 will not work. 58x reluctor FTL.

use a cobalt pcm, or change out the crankshaft from an older eco

Cobalt pcm with Cavalier gauges? Isn't the 'balt a returnless fuel system too?

Go standalone fuel management and timing.

the 'Balt PCM probably won't work with the Cav BCM, so good luck with that. you can use the fuel rail and lines from a j-body Eco like I did in my conversion. still need a different crank due to the reluctor wheel differences.

still doesn't solve the PS problem. the new ecos don't have the PS provision anymore.
not to mention the ignition problem

use a 2005 or older eco. the new designs will not work without a lot of modification and offers no benefits other than a lighter wallet (cuz you spent more money to get it in)

easiest way is to just change the crank, theres no real difference in performance there your never going to bust a stock eco crank of any year,

rods, pistons, block, head, cams are all superior in the 07

yeah too much work for me... i just thought if it was a pretty simple swap, that i wouldnt mind a 07 engine with 3,000 miles on it in my cavy....

but yeah... not worth it to me... so i am serious... anyone want a 07 cobalt Eco with 3k miles on it... brand new... out of a wrecked cobalt.

does me no good... but i am sure someone out there would love this baby.

hmmm interesting... i have 94k on mine, and it is just begining to make some noises... i could prob drive it another 20k before it went....

and maybe you should read up before making such insane accusations.... MOST people run these engines darn near 200k before they have problems.

http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=30&i=25330&t=25330

and J-body folks are typically not a good sample of the general population. most of us are here for performance and because we push our cars. i have MANY friends that have 2.4L engines in their cars and just drive them every day, and are WELL into the 100k's and they still run like the day they bought them.

I know i BEAT my car into the ground... i am sure my driving style shaved 50k off my engine.
