onyone done this to there intake?

Hey i made my intake last summer, i went to a local parts store and bought a civic intake and a 90 degree elbow, some silicone connectors and a filtter. I have the elbow coming off the tb with the civic intake going into the usual spot where 2200 intake go behind the battery. Then i removed the bong from the fender and took the stock intake tube and ran it from the hole in the fender where the bong connected to the airbox to as close to the bumper as i could get it and made a little kind of air scoop for the end. i dont know if it does any difference or not but i though it was a neat idea to put some otherwise useless parts to good use.

i call it my short ram cold air hybrid intake cause im super creative. i think it was a neat idea when i did it anyone else do anything like this? or am i just a weenie

Don't forget your incorrect usage of "there."

It should be "their."

Okay... First, the word is "bung", not "bong". Secondly, what you have fabbed is effectively know as a FAI (Fresh Air Intake) or Ram-air system. Many have done it for decades, so it's nothing new. The fact that you made effort to fab such a system instead of being one of these typical "tuner" folk whom just buy a system and bolt it on gets you my respect (Now don't blow it!). Now, since you didn't say as to where & how the scoop is facing, all you need to do is get it mounted so it faces forward opening into the frontal area of the car. This means it needs to be exposed to the air that hits the front of the car as it's moving forward directly. Once you have that done, and assuming (Something I don't like to do) that the area of the scoop is equal to that of the airbox inlet or larger, you'll have an effective Ram-Air system!

Note: All reductions and turns in ducting of a Ram-Air system must be as gradual as possible for the system to achieve maximum effectiveness without "choking".

Go beyond the "bolt-on".

By the way, I've done it too on my '85 TBI 2.5L S-10, and it worked beautifully. Helped me get 25mpg when I cruised 75-80mph down to Bowling Green for the Buick Nationals. Can't wait to build another for my 2.2L (LN2) dime!

nope, that's bong, so labeled due to it's resemblance of a "water pipe".

don't be so quick to correct someone, or you come off looking like an ass.

X2

and nothing personal but I really doubt he cares if some guy on the internet respects him not based off his intake LOL

^^^As opposed to being a 'hole, FReQ? Lemme guess: You flunked social skills class, right? And Dark, your sarcasm is hard to read. And on that note, I'd like to say I don't hear of many even willing to make such an effort around here, so anyone openly coming forth and telling of having done so, even in possibly flawed effort, gets applause from me. It's an old, proven idea that's sadly turning into a lost art. And last time I checked, anything that's proven to help performance that's added still helps. We should all be willing to break the trend of doing just what everyone does currently and embrace such bold experimentation with functional old ideas & self-fabricate improvements in power in our cars. And if you can't dig that, please politely stick your heads back in the small you've temporarily removed them from in order to pass the "judgement" you have upon this topic.

You, Mr. Manners... There's no need to name call so early into (or quickly upon) a thread. Play nice! And you have what experience with making a FAI system? Yeah, I thought so... Sidown & take a leason from your elders, you might save yourself some head pain. What I meant by facing forward was by way of an opening within the front facia of the car facing into the headwind, as to collect the maximum amount of air available & funnel it from a realitively large area (the inlet) into a tract of slightly smaller (but not smaller than the throttle bore) of low restriction leading to the intake manifold inlet. It works, it's always worked (that way, nontheless), and a well-designed system has yet to be proven it don't. Remember: For every 10*F you reduce the inlet air temperature, you gain an average of 1hp. Combine that with the mild supercharging effect of a Ram-Air system, and you can see what good the creation of such a system does for any car with any engine of any type. Even F/I engines. Heck, I've seen a guy fab a scoop that funnel-fed air from the draft that flowed under his front license plate into the factory intercooler on his '87 GN. He also placed his K&N cylindrical filter behind the grill just before the A/C condenser via 3" aluminum flexible dryer ducting to a reducer in which he mounted his IAT just before his MAF. The result?: Mid- to high-11s on a 10" street radial with minimal suspension mods (unbolt front swaybar, 90/10 shocks up front). And this was about 13 years ago for reference. So if that isn't proof enough for you, please follow final instruction stated in last post. Do I have an additude? Yes, and you would too after dealing with blatent(?) ignorants on two threads of the same topic whom won't listen to someone whom's "Been there, done that" and has the technical proof of the validity of of his efforts. Bung, bong, potato, potato... "let's call the whole thing off!".

OMG! I have seen the light! I now know the secret to gaining 3 hp in my cavi from an intake instead of 2.

First of all its flexable dryer hose and lots and lots of piping with extra bends is no way to make power, ok so the air is a few degrees cooler, but its barely moving becasue of such a overly restrictive intake track. Same thing as the CAI vs. WAI, in the end it equals out (close enough to where you wont ever see a difference between the to)

and last... ITS A @!#$ INTAKE, your little I know everything speech was funny but damn get over yourself, no one is impressed.

and FReQ Z was right, the whole tone of your post was condescending

Re: onyone done this to there intake?

Thats nothing.... you guys shoulda saw the home made intake I had on my Sunbird when it was being shipped home from the military (the car is long gone now.... but Darkstars has seen it in person and might remember the thing.... it looked like crap but everything was new and it ran great)

I had a cool air intake off of a civic on it for a long time and for some reason the intake cracked and I didn't have the stock airbox or rubber piping anymore and the car had to be drivable to be shipped home...... so I bought about 2.4 feet of flex pipe/tubing, and a roll of duct tape, grapped the filter off the civic intake and went to town..... it worked fine and was on the car like that for about 6 months although I never popped the hood with anyone around..

Sometimes I miss that car even if it only hit 60 in 9 seconds and didn't handle for crap....... too bad the body wasn't as bulletproof as the engine and tranny.

the point is..... who cares if it works..

Geez, I thought with what you guys are trying to do every little bit counts. But apparently some of you aren't willing to sweat it (Darkstars, FReQ Z). And oh, about condescending posts... It's not like all of yours here weren't, so I guess it takes one whom makes them to know one when they see it. Now I know again how Lincoln, JFK & Martin Luther King felt: Try to help out, and get shot by some 'hole for it. To that I say: Goodbye & good luck with the FWD performance car masterbation you're all so fond of.

Umm.... Im pretty sure you don't know how Lincoln, JFK, and MLK felt..... unless you have been shot in the head, back, or chest..... and since your posting on here..... I'm assuming you haven't...... so don't say crap like that....... being shot and killed.... or just shot hurts a whole hell of a lot more than being flamed on some message board...... suck it up dude.... it's just the Internet...

oh and btw..... I don't have any problems with FWD performance or masturbating...... besides a little carpel tunnel or tendinitis..... but that's not a big deal
