check engine light

Ok, I know you guys condemn the throttle body spacers to hell and all, but i already bought one, so i might as well use it. Anyway, i put it on and it seemed to be fitting properly, but when i drove the car, the check engine light and service lights came on. The engine was making a deeper sound and would stutter once in awhile when idling. I then took it off and the lights went off after a few minutes of driving. This is on an 01 z24 cavy. I'm still a newb at this, i know what the parts do, but i don't know much of anything about how the computer reacts, so any suggestions with that would be helpful. I'm also planning on putting a new air intake on myself and was wondering what to expect from that installation.

for future reference, any posts about check engine lights should also contain what codes were set when the CEL came on. this is VERY helpful in troubleshooting.

well, the problem is i don't have a tuner to plug into the computer, so right now it's set all on stock settings. Would it be better to buy a tuner or just take it to a shop that has one after i do the mods? Again, i know i sound like a retard right now, but i'm only 19 and i just started getting into cars about 6 months ago, so i'm trying to learn as much as i can. The thing is, this is my everyday car so the engine's health is what i'm most concerned about, but i would like to add some power to it.

im going to venture a guess that you cause some major kind of vacuum leak wen you put the spacer on, as it probably didnt seal right.

like i said, a guess, but its probably right.

This may be a dumb question but it didn't say in the directions, does the gasket go between the tb and spacer or underneath the spacer, we had it between the tb and spacer so i would think that would cause a vacuum leak if it was wrong.

The stock seal on the intake manifold would seal the bottom of the spacer and the gasket that you got with the spacer would go between the T/B and spacer.

What Paul said is correct. Also, make sure your vac lines are all hooked back into the proper spots that will play some weird games if they are switched up.

Yes they will! i just fought a P0108 (MAP/BARO circuit High) all day Sunday, only to discover it was an operator error.
I switched the MAP sensor vacuum line with another one.
The bright side is that I have a new MAP sensor and a pocket scanner along with a bunch of new vacuum lines...
So yeah, what KFLO said.
