Buying Gold Crane Roller Rocker Set...

Buying these this weekend http://www.howellautomotive.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=7 anything else to buy with it to make it work? As in do I need new springs, etc. I have a custom reground cam by crane in there right now. Just thought I would do more to the valve train as well. All input is welcome.

How much lift are you running with the cam? You may need valve springs with these because they will increse lift slightly. Im not sure what options you have for valve springs with the 2200, i know for the 95-97 2.2 ohv, you can use the gmpp ls6 valve springs. I have a set, they require .09" shaved off the 95-97 2.2 valve seats, and .200" off the 2200 spring seats. Its in debate if the head will be ruined with that much shaved off the valve seats because you could run into the coolant passages. Someone has to sacrafice a head to find the answer to this question, i would rather see a bad one get tested rather then a good one with work already done on it. If you havent gotten a port and polish on your head, you should do it. It would give you a great increase in power.

Yes, valvetrain clearance on the 2200 is tight, we need to know what your cam grind is.

My head is port and polished... If anything I can just try this out and see what happens. But here is my cam spec sheet.

That doesn't make any difference as to whether or not you are going to destroy your engine.
DO NOT run that cam and rocker combo on a 2200 without taking the seats and guides down. Running that cam with stock rockers may be deadly as is.

Ok. Well I will wait for a while on this yet. My valve train has gave me no problems so far with this cam. Everything has been working fine.

I'm not giving you a hard time. Most people only realize there's a problem when part of the valvetrain fails. If you haven't done any measuring and your springs / rockers / valve stem height are stock, then you should pull the valve cover and look for problems. Common signs of trouble are stress cracks in side of rocker around roller fulcrum, bent pushrods, cracks around oil feed hole from pushrod cup in rocker, heat discoloration around pushrod tip and cup in rocker, mushroomed valve stems, aluminum "squeezed" out from under the spring seat, wear or shiny marks on valve spring coils indicating coil contact, and destroyed valve seals.

justa FYI.

Forgive me for jumpin' on like this but I'm considering this mod too, now that I have a truck with a '98+ LN2 in it. Of course, just like with the Iast one I spoke about here, I'm just lookin' to improve low-end torque so they'll be used with the stock cam. Maybe even the hybrid lifters I've learned from you guys how to build. Any need for worries?

No, shouldn't be any problems there. And there is a pair for sale in the classifieds! 75 bucks or something. Great deal.
