i have one of "those" intakes from autozone. and although it might increase lower end torque due to the turbulance of the air, you are loosing alot of flow from going with a true aftermarket intake. this the reason you are looking at smooth bends, and large diameter piping. i wish i had a welder to remedy that problem of mine, but i am working on it. spend the extra money and get somthing decent. i have seen people snag the ones off ebay and put a decent filter on it. your call.

Will I throw any codes or CEL's by using one?

Mike if what you're talking about is what I remember those pieces you use to make up an intake are plastic.

OP I would just go ebaying, and buy a better filter as said before.

If you get a "good" one. You just end up paying for the name. I bought my injen before I really thought about. Bet it is just as good as the ebay ones with the K&N.

$12 fro a K&N filter... I'm going to have to call on that one. You can't get a K&N for much under $30...

how bad does the 2.4 intakes on the 2.2 eco hit the hood. cause when i made my intake(all custom welded 3" pipe) no matter what i did it hit the hood until i did some weird angles. i think when your intake rubs the hood looks like crap. just my opinion.

Run the autozone intake down into your fender (remove both airboxes). I did this and noticed a difference from just short-ram (you're pulling in actual cold air rather than the heated air from the engine compartment). You can also have one made, I thought about having this done myself (have it made from 3" exhaust piping) and then painting it.

this is definately true, for the most part. depending on materials used (most being aluminum which doesnt retain heat as much as steel does) is lightweight, tigged, and polished.

few examples i get to now RE-expereince with the charger.....

This is the Dodge Mopar CAI.... yea, i know, its a short ram or warm air but the "muscle crowd" calls anything other than stock a CAI....i'm still getting used to it....

Heres the AEM Brute Force

NOTICE HOW SIMILAR THOSE LOOK?????

Heres the Ebay version....

the pipe diameter is ALL THE SAME between the 3, the filters, different color and probably different thicknesses or weaves..... but the filters can be changed. the Mopar is literally a RE-Badged AEM gimmick.

Price????

Mopar intake the lowest i've found is 266 $
AEM the lowest i've found is 235 $
Ebay intake 26.99 + 22$ shipping for 48.99 or 50$. the only thing missing from the ebay one is the heat sheild of which i am SURE doesnt cost an extra 150+ $

the difference between the 3....the stickers that come in the box..... and the ebay lacks the heat sheild obviously.

i had a total of 11 different intakes on the cavalier, and none of them really outperformed the rest. some had gains in certain powerbands, but i lost in other areas of the band....

now its true, companies do charge for the time it took to research and test the design, but after a while, you get out of just breaking even, and the rest made is profits....the parts are cheap, like said by some in this post, the NAME YOU DO PAY FOR....

Dan Newman.... as for K&N for 12$..... hes actually right..... ebay was sellin em like mad a while back, i got mine for 14$ shipped.

heres an auction, if you time it right, you can get it for under 10$ http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/K-N-air-filter-RE-0930-cone-intake-new_W0QQitemZ330217187614QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item330217187614

All of this could have been prevented if the Ultimate Intake Thread had been read before hand.....
