Will this intake fit my car?

Haha jk calm down everyone.

But I do have a serious question regarding intakes and I know these topics have been beaten to death but just try and follow me here...

So many people defend CAI's for their not sucking hot air from the engine bay over WAI, some say it doesn't matter, blah blah blah, not really what this is about.
Reading through the performance FAQ I read this and thought it was interesting...

Quote:

Short rams are usually more abundant, and from proof they run pretty much similar to long rams. A bit more quicker throttle response can be seen due to a shorter path and less bends to travel through.

Now I realize that intakes don't really provide that much power and each one isn't going to provide much more power than another design. I was just wondering what everyone's thoughts on the better throttle response part of that were and if it would make enough of a difference (if any) to choose a WAI over a CAI based upon this. Any comments not directly pertaining to the ongoing arguement of hot air in the engine bay would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I've had both on a 2200 and if there is a difference it isn't enough for me to feel. With only one intake valve per cylinder and a weaksauce cam the factory airbox probably isn't holding back the LN2.

DOHC FTW!

I think it's time somone did some dyno testing on a wide variety of air intake tracts on variety of different engines and stickied the results (Don't look at me for it!).

Go beyond the "bolt-on".

Agreed. Who is going to fund this experiment? Thats the problem.

well i hear that there is a home dyno testing kit somewhere for expensive and if i get it i'll do it, but than again im not gonna buy every intake just to test..

I will do it for you guys!

Just @!#$ kidding. That would be a pointless experiment considering...

A. Intakes don't add much

B. What they do add is probably within tolerance of a dyno run, meaning just because the dyno says one intake makes less power than another one, it could be just because the car is heatsoaked or whatever.

C. Stop worrying about throttle response, the meager power that is gained, or anything else WAI CAI PIE or whatever related. Run your aluminum tube to the fender, or to the front bumper, or over by the battery. Just get the freaking pipe to a cooler air source and you will be doing all that you can be as far as intakes go.

might i add to this, after installing a ceramic coated header, my intake pipe stays ambient temp, whereas before with the stock mani, the thing was too hot to touch after 30 minutes drive. there is a big reduction in underhood temps.

cooler air is good but over rated.

The air can only be as sold as it is outside. When your moving your getting all kinds of air flow through the engine bay. When you add more lenth of piping and a bunch of bends to the pipe to get the filter to the colded air your lossing air velocity and power.

in the end it doesn't matter. Pick one and go with it. Me personally, I'll stick to WAI and not worry about hiting a puddle.

That sounds like what I said....

This question wasn't about how to make an intake, it was asking if the length of pipe made any difference, just a question.

Very true, I don't think there will ever be testing accurate enough to measure the difference. And if there is it'll be by the company making it and to no one's surprise theirs will be claimed as the best intake.

My thoughts exactly, I was just kind of throwing this question up to see what people thought. Besides, I already ordered my crappy one off ebay anyways so I suppose it doesn't matter too much.

But I'm glad I still gave people a place to argue if there is warm or cold air under the hood or not haha...

I can't remember where I read this but i remember seeing somewhere the affect on flow of a 90* bend in an intake pipe is the equivelent of 8 feet of straight piping. Not sure how accurate that really is but the point is still he same.

Whoa thats pretty crazy, I didn't think it would be that much.

Would running the air from a colder source really make that much of a difference? I mean by the time the air gets from the filter to the head, it's probably absorbed so much heat from the engine that it wouldn't contribute to much of a power gain to begin with.

Whats that you say? Hes mentioned something I've said several times? Hmmph, maybe someone will listen...
Intake air temperature when varied by 10-20 degrees actually does make a noticeable difference (ever notice that your car seems a bit perkier at night? thats why).
