99 2.2 engine removal question
Sunday, March 23, 2008 4:02 PM
Has anyone tried removing the engine/trans and the subframe together from underneath the car? I'm changing my clutch, timing chain set,motor/trans mounts and oil pan next weekend so I'm trying to find the best way to pull the engine and transmission.(from the top?bottom?together?seperate?) It looks like you could avoid pulling the axles if you lowered the engine and subframe at the same time. How hard is it to remove the axles? This may not be the right forum, but I assumed performance guys probably pull engines more often than most people.

Do a reverse of how the factory put it together? Makes sense to me! Only thing is you don't need to pull the axles, but you do need to unbolt the upper strut mounts. And of course, undo all that wiring & brake plumbing. But that last part should be no harder than just pulling the calipers off the knuckles.

Go beyond the "bolt-on".
