I have a 94' Cavalier with the 2.2 motor. I am in a situation where I no longer need the air. Before I took the a/c off, I had no problem with the belt. Now that the a/c is off and I have bought a new belt, it seems to be too long. All local parts stores tell me it is a 70.5 inch 5 rib belt. I get about 1/2-1 inch of play when running though it is not slipping. I know my shafts aren't bent because I havent drove it since the change. I have went through 2 different tensioners thinking that may be the problem. I have looked through all parts stores including autozone, advance, napa and westwood. The closest thing I can find in a 5 rib that is shorter is a 66.5 inch belt and I know that wont work. I can't find anything even online to work. If I could get a 70 in. or 69.5 inch in a 5 rib belt that would be great. But is there something I am missing????? All answers appreciated....
yes. you are missing an idler pulley. when no a/c was present from the factory, a pulley was put there in its place. they have them on ebay all the time.
Have you checked the performance of your tensioner? I bet it's due for replacement.

Is the older 2.2 different than the 2200 in terms of it's accessories? All I had to do with my 2000 2200 was put a non-ac belt on; didn't need an idler pully in place of the compressor. What I'm getting at is if the accessories are the same, maybe he could try the non-ac belt from my car.
IIRC: Pre-'98 (2.2L) has five ribs, '98-later (2200) has six.
