I'm looking to get an aftermarket exhaust, from the cat back. I currently have my trusty 2200 OHV in the bay, however, I plan on having the Eco installed by the end of august, if not earlier.
One: Custom mandrel bend: every shop I hit up is telling me I need to bring it in (short of waiting on Cody from RDFabs). I'm kind of expecting the same answer.
Two: From the cat-back, will my stock OHV-powered-Sunfire exhaust bolt on to the L61 downpipe? If yes, then I can proceed to the next question.
Three: I don't have any local shop that have a mandrel bender, and if the stock 2200 exhaust doesn't fit, no way will I drive 4 hours down our 400 series highway to the nearest one, without any exhaust attached. So, I'm thinking of welding up my own. How many joints did you folks need? Straight piping?
I'm thinking 2x 45's, 2x 90's, a few feet of straight stuff, and a 24" resonator (plus the magnaflow at the end and some flanges). Am I missing something?
Thanks for the help!
Forgot to add, I'm going to be doing it in 2.5" 304SS, plan on boosting next year.

2002 Sunfire -->
- Ractive steering wheel
- ASA 17" EM9 + Nexen N5000 215/45/17 (steelies for winter)
- D-Spec Lowering kit @ 1.4" (issues currently

)
- Rockford P250.1 + MTX MZS1004 + Panasonic CQ-C8313U head unit
- Barely legal tint.
i did mine with 2-90's, 2-45's, 2-180's. your gonna pay a ton for someone to mandrel bend it. just buy the pieces of pipe.
flanges, gaskets, hangers, bolts, o2 bungs
Cody is going to require to have your car at the shop for a saturday, i know, i have been talking to him qiute a bit about my exhaust.
well i know the flanges on the cats throughout all the years and diff engines are the same. Not sure if that goes for the downpipe as well.
If Scott means from the flange at the cat-back, then I'm set.
The eco most definitely has a different downpipe, the exhaust/intake are on opposing sides of the LN2.
Vincent:
Thanks dude, that's what I was looking for.
I was going to order through Stainless Works, but the shipping costs half the cart content! So I'm going to be buying Vibrant piping, decently priced through the Keystone catalog, and no shipping.

Yes, I mean the flange right after the cat....its the same for all years I believe. My catback came off an eco and it fits fine on my LN2...bolted up nicely
if you are doing this up for the eco then thats what i used. i have a 28" resonator, and the dynomax super turbo, if need be, pm me and i can send you the link for the pics of my exhaust set up.
just throw a stock srt4 axel back on it

not a bad idea actually. My buddy has thrown those things on his past 2 neons. They are by far one of the best sounding exhaust systems from the factory. Unfortunately, it would require some cutting/welding/rebending some sections but I am sure it would be made to fit...problem is...they aren't that cheap but still are worth it IMO.
I got mine for free and made 1 cut and clamped it for now just did it today took me about a half hour
free eh? you must have connections...
Is the catback the same on all the engines? I am trying to get a stock catback for my 2.4L from the junk yard but he said he only has the 2.2L ones. Just wondering. Thanks.
~Boost. Its what's for dinner!~

I am curious how this looks...
Could you post a couple of pics?

Yes all stock catbacks are the same and will bolt up to any year/engine as they use the same flange at the cat. The only difference is the GT exhaust which has 2 mufflers....
i have a 96 sunfire gt
and i ve been searching for exhaust systems bc mine sux. i have dual exhaust incase u didnt know.
where do i go to find good exhaust systems that will fit on my car?
basically, i need someone to direst me to a site where i can buy aftermarket dual exhaust kits.

You would think so, but no.
Way back when I had a J, I put a 2002 SFGT cat back on a 99 z24, and wouldn't even come close to bolting right up. There was something behind the gas tank on the z24 that the pipe had to bent around.

Why hasn't anyone designed a minimal mandrel bent exhaust for our cars? Those flow better than any other type out there.
