Fuel cell install?
Saturday, May 10, 2008 4:14 PM
I am about to install a fuel cell into my 97 cavalier. I need the room that the stock tank takes up for another project. The fuel cell I have is a 14 gallon aluminum cell, with a 0-90 ohm sending unit and rollover valve.

The questions I have are:

What are the requirements for an in-line pump?
What is the PSI rating on a stock pump?
Will I need to regulate fuel pressure is I buy a more than adequate (higher psi) pump?
Will this mod make me throw codes?
Are there any other suggestions/concerns?
What am I forgetting?

A write up would be great, but I've searched to no avail. Maybe I'll do one when I go to install all of this.

Heres one suggestion, be ready to spend some money on braided lines and fittings. My suggestions are an Aeromotive A1000 pump, earls lines and fittings, aeromotive adjustable fuel pressure reg. Be ready to see a code thrown, as you will no longer have a working fuel gauge. Run one line about 12 inches off the cell to the external pump, from the pump to the fuel rail and then the AFPR then back to the cell. That should cover most of it, as im doing this on my brothers firebird right now.

I think I've narroed the fuel pump down to either the p5000 carter pump or the e2000 ford pump. both are more than ample (between 0-90 psi). I'm gonna use stratoflex hose and fittings for the fuel lines.

My real question now is will I need a fuel pressure regulator even though my fuel system uses a return line?
