I'm going to say yes, and no. I would have always thought they were all exactly the same, but I recently ran into an issue where mine are not the same. It may have changed in 96 (I have a 95), but I'm also guessing that the compatibility is there if you stick with the same tranny. The issue I ran into is in doing the NFW swap, where I needed my J-body shafts to fit into the N-body outter CV. If you are swapping the whole axle, I would be very surprized if they were not interchangeable. If you can take yours to the yard and match up the input and output shafts to be sure, then that's the safest bet.

All 4spd (not sure if 3 speed are the same) auto axles are the same, 2.2 or 2.4, all 5 speed axles are the same, 2.2, 2.4, getrag or isuzu.

Well, not the same, but they are interchangeable. The 2.2 axles that I got are skinnier than the 2.4 axles I had, and there are some differences like the 2 piece axles in 96.

This is pretty much what I have been thinking since I ran into my problem, but I have been unable to verify: seems like another GM oddity: interchangeable axles, but different shaft thickness on the OHV than DOHC engines. Your 2.2 axles being thinner than your 2.4 ones seems to confirm this thought.
