Does anyone have a torque plate for the 2.4L DOHC "twincam" engine??
I am about to take my block in to have it bored, and no one around here has the torque plates for this engine... they say it will cost $300 to buy one... or they can just bore it without one.....
Does anyone have one? or know a shop that does? or anyone planning to bore a 2.4L block soon that might be willing to split the cost of the plate with me?
How important is a torque plate? is it worth the $300 to get one? or should i just skip it?
check and ask on the quad4forums. A couple of them have one that they might loan out

will a quad 4 plate work just the same as a 2.4L?
i know the engines are very similar... but wasnt 100% on this
i wasnt even aware of any places that actually make a plate...
it'd love to have one.

Riddle me this... riddle me that...
What the hell is a torque plate for?

A torque plate is used during the final honing of the cylinder bores to simulate the way they will distort with the cylinder head torqued down. This allows the piston rings to seat faster.
The purpose of a torque plate is to mimic the head being on the block so that there will be no distortion of the upper cylinder walls while honing.
In theory creating a better / straighter bore one the head is on the motor.
"Does your machine shop use a torque plate for cylinder honing? If not, find another machine shop. Torque plates are bolted on top of the block to simulate cylinder-head installation to get cylinder bores true to what they'll be with the heads installed. Honing the bores without a torque plate is trouble because when you install the heads, cylinder bores will distort, creating ring-seating issues and abnormal wear. "
