I have just switched from an auto to a manual transmission. It has a 2.2 engine. I was wondering if I would need to change the chip in the computer. I know computers are the same but I dont see what difference the chip would make... Thanks for all answers....
did you do anything else?? Did you drive it?? does it drive good?
I am not real good with the OBD 1 stuff myself. You might want to search in the tuning forums for this. If everything is working fine for you though, I dont see why it would be necessary.
I don't recall if there are any codes for the auto trans-axle with the OBD-I system outside of torque converter clutch, so unless you get a light there's nothing to worry about. And John has a good question there, in that the pin placement for the manual trans ECM is different from the auto's. Heck, even the truck's ECM for that year is different from all the ones used in cars with that engine, as well as each other. So, did you do a harness swap as well?
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
