2.2 tbi

i was just wondering if anyone actually modified this old but dependable powerplant and what kind of power they got it to produce. i dont plan on doing anything, i just wondered if it was capable of doing anything. this engine wasnt really made for performance but economy. it does that very well.

If they did, odds are they found greater happiness with the '92-'94 MPI or more so with the '95-'97 SMPI swapped-in.

My roomie has a 2.2 tbi that we've put every bolt on part possible on. And its still slow as molasses...partly thanks to the auto tranny. 18.6 @ like 71 mph is its fastest in the 1/4.

Now we're in the process of converting it to multiport injection. Then turboing it.

LOL... I think the carb on my 18 horse lawnmower has a larger throttle plate than the TBI used on the 2.0 / 2.2 engine. You'll notice a difference just switching to pfi.

look through the 1st gen or 2nd gen forums for 1redry's turbo tbi engine.

-->Slow

slow I love you man, I think your the only one who refers back to my car (meaning remembering me/my car alot) I really appreciate it.....

but yeah if you do infact switch I bet it will make a few more ponies not to mention better throttle response.. that is what I'm lacking, and tuning can be a real PITA for a single injector.

**changes are here**

^Yeah, IIRC the last year TBI was put on any GM engine was '95. And that was in the G-series full-size vans because of a full body/chassis change that up for the '96-later model-years. Not to mention how the "OBD-1.5" management in-use in was actually a OBD-I ECM like found in every '82-up GM TBI app, but with a 16-pin OBD-II style ALDL connector. And since the OBD-I systems use PROM chips instead of flash memory like OBD-IIs, unless you have the skill & equipment to "burn" chips you're looking at alotta down-time between runs as you try to get it tuned right, because of having to wait for your chip in the mail. And besides, the way I see it if you want to go turbo on a driver you'll need three things: Sequential Multi-point Injection, Distributorless Ignition, and (This is optional in the case of our cars/engines management systems) a Mass-Airflow Sensor. I know TBI turbo has been done before (By Mitsubishi), but I really wouldn't recommend repeating that.
