What Cams?

Alright I want to put cams on my 03 cavalier. I currently have many bolt ons and now I want to put cams in. I know that the stage 1 comp cams don't require computer modifications. Is this the one I should go with? I want to S/C soon as well. The only reason im really wanting to go only stage 1 is because that is the only one that doesn't require comp. modifications. Is there any real benefits over the other. I really am just looking for people to reference what I should do. Any help or point of direction would be great. Thanks Again

Level Zero Motorsports Ecotec Tri-Flow Cams are another good choice that I don't believe gives any computer issues. I wouldn't go too high a stage of cam if you want a blower because the higher stage cams push the powerband higher and higher expecting you to build a high revving N/A motor. If you were to do that you would probably have to underdrive the blower since you'd be spinning the motor upwards of 8000 RPM and would either be overspeed on the blower or operating way out of desired efficiency ranges. Also if you choose to go turbo, having a cam with lots of overlap like the stage 2 and 3 cams will be a problem too so in your position i would stick to either stage 1 cams, blower cams or the tri-flow cams.

Even if you choose Comp stage I, you will benefit greatly from HPT at least. Stage I will make power to ~6800RPM, well past the stock redline, so if you're serious about performance, tuning is a must to take advantage of even stage I. Anything that moves power past 7000 rpm, and you'll have to considrer some kind of standalone to take full advantage as the HPT (Jbody ecu) spark and fuel parameters are limited to this rpm. It really kinda sucks that we have awesome options like stage 3 available but cannot easily take advantage of them.

Just somethings to keep in mind

So will this cam still be acceptable when I do S/C my car? Or will I need to have a blower cam?

Don't forget about springs... If you want cams between new springs/retainers and the cams it's an expensive mod as some of us have found out.
