Car just shuts down like hitting rev limiter about 5000 rpm. let off and its fine until it hits again? any ideas?

how much fuel when it does this? when i had mine (was a 99 2.2 5 speed) it would cut out after it got below a quarter tank if you filled it past that it wouldnt cut out, there are upgrades and such to fix it... should come up in a search
