trans cooler question
Sunday, August 16, 2009 12:56 PM
hey i have a question, i have a trans cooler that i got from another vehicle, I was wondering if it would be beneficial to my car, or my trans to run a trans cooler, i have a 95 z24 manual, that i recently turbocharged. I was wondering with all the extra stress on the motor and trans, it would have to be getting hotter than normal, so would installing a trans cooler help. Is there anyone else out there running a trans cooler on their cavy

if it can't win a race it better win a show

i'd like to see how you'd hook a trans cooler up to your manual tranny.

lol no pressure in manual trans. just fluid sittin in it that gets splattered around. auto trans has pressurized system

I'm just gonna play idiot devil's advocate here (cause I can honestly say I know nothing about transmissions), but couldn't you tap the bottom of the trans, put in an inline pump with a return tapped into the top of the trans?? I think it'd be a ton of work for very little benefit (if it'd even work). I think the hardest part would be finding a suitable pump to move the fluid with the right flow: iirc vehicles with trans coolers move the fluid very slowly through them.

really not worth it.
i drove my car 100+ miles one time, got out, trans was warm, but not hot enough i couldn't keep my hand on it if need be.

i wouldnt hesitate to buy that if i was due to change the fluid again. its real close to the price of a quart of regular synchromesh.

well i didnt think about how i could do it, the first thing i though about is if it would be beneficial to do it since i got it for free, i didnt know the manual trans fluid wasnt pressurized but i guess if i had put a little more thought into it seeing as how the trans dipstick kinda just sits in the hole. oh well it would have been cool anyway lol, maybe i can use it as a place to store alcohol and then hook up a vacuum line to it so that everytime im boosting it will spray rum and coke in my mouth lol, that would be funny as hell, but not safe but still funny
