extending intake

Yep, another intake question. I have a basic intake on my car now, but I want to redirect the filter down into the front bumper to try and get some cooler air. I plan on routing it similar to the aem for the eco. I have access to 2.5" aluminum piping. It is just like the intake I already have, but it is .5" smaller. I know the intake track is generally only going to be as strong as smallest area. So the intake tube that is half 2.5" diameter and half 3" is a lot like just a constant 2.5" diameter tube as far as maximum efficient airflow. My question is, will a 2.5" diameter intake pipe be too small to be efficient? I'm kind of having a hard time visualizing this, and I know there's someone on here who can help me get a better idea how well this will work.

with an intake, when theres a size change in tubing i believe its something like a velocity stack.

generally, if theres a velocity index type of intake, it gets smaller towards the throttle body, not at the filter. the reason for this is it helps keep the air velocity of the intake relatively the same at the TB as it is at the filter.

Yea, I know. That's why I'm a little wary doing it. By putting the smaller tube on the filter end, I'm basically turning my entire intake into smaller pipe. I don't know if the temperature difference will make up for the flow difference.

2.5 should work basicly how big is the butterfly on the TB and measure the size of the ID of the stock tube

i have 3.5" on my swap but thats because 3" fits funny with the screen on my TB but you don't have to worrk about that.

the 2200 instakes i beileve are 3" pipe then have a silicon coupler that is 2.5 on TB and 3" on the intake so 2.5 shouldn't be an issue
